
GM Simplifies Public EV Charging Through Electrify America Integration
General Motors is taking another significant step toward improving the electric vehicle ownership experience by streamlining access to public charging. Recognizing that convenient, reliable charging is central to widespread EV adoption, GM has integrated Electrify America’s fast-charging network directly into its myChevrolet, myGMC, and myCadillac mobile apps. This move allows drivers to find, charge, and pay at more than 5,000 Electrify America fast-charging stations across the United States—without the need for additional apps or accounts.
The integration includes access to Electrify America’s Hyper-Fast 350-kilowatt DC chargers, which are designed to significantly reduce charging times for compatible vehicles. By embedding these capabilities directly into GM’s existing brand apps, the automaker aims to simplify the public charging process and remove friction that can discourage EV drivers, particularly during longer trips.
With Electrify America built into the myBrand apps, GM customers benefit from a unified and intuitive charging experience. Instead of juggling multiple charging network apps, drivers can manage the entire charging journey from a single interface already installed on their smartphones. From the Public Charging section within their app, users can locate supported charging networks, view station details, and confidently plan charging stops while traveling.
GM Energy, the company’s energy-focused business unit, plays a central role in this effort. According to Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, the collaboration reflects GM’s broader commitment to improving not just the number of charging stations available, but also the overall quality of the charging experience.
“We’re collaborating across the industry to deliver not just more chargers, but better public charging experiences,” Sheffer said. “Our work with Electrify America helps make public charging easier to access for GM EV drivers.”
The integration supports GM’s long-term strategy of connecting its growing EV customer base to a robust and expanding public charging ecosystem. Across the United States and Canada, GM drivers can now access more than 250,000 public charging stations through supported networks. This wide-reaching infrastructure is intended to provide drivers with greater confidence, whether commuting locally or embarking on long-distance travel.
As electric vehicle adoption accelerates, the demand for dependable, easy-to-use charging solutions continues to rise. Electrify America CEO and president Robert Barrosa emphasized that seamless charging access is becoming increasingly critical as more drivers rely on EVs for daily transportation and road trips alike.
“As EV travel continues to grow, so does the need for convenient charging experiences,” Barrosa said. “Through this integration, GM EV drivers have more Hyper-Fast chargers to choose from and a seamless experience they can count on nationwide, helping them get to the places that matter.”
Through the enhanced myBrand apps, GM EV drivers can access a suite of practical charging features designed to simplify every stage of the process. These include the ability to locate nearby charging stations with real-time availability updates, plan routes that incorporate charging stops, monitor the status of active charging sessions, and pay for charging directly within the app. By consolidating these functions into a single platform, GM aims to reduce uncertainty and improve overall usability.
The focus on digital integration also aligns with GM’s broader vision of creating a connected EV ecosystem that extends beyond the vehicle itself.
