American electric vehicle Diodes manufacturer Rivian has unveiled complete trim details and pricing for its highly anticipated R2, an all-new mid-size electric SUV designed to expand the company’s reach to a wider group of buyers. The new model represents a significant step for the EV startup, bringing the brand’s distinctive design language, advanced technology, and adventure-focused capability to a more accessible price point while maintaining the qualities that have defined Rivian vehicles.
The R2 will begin deliveries in spring 2026, starting with the high-performance R2 Performance trim featuring the Launch Package, which will be priced from $57,990. Additional Premium configurations are expected to arrive later in 2026, while the more affordable Standard variants are scheduled to enter production in 2027.
A New Platform Built for Accessibility and Performance
The R2 is built on a completely new mid-size vehicle platform that has been engineered to deliver strong capability and impressive performance while lowering overall costs compared to Rivian’s existing lineup. The platform allows the SUV to offer a compelling balance of power, range, and versatility.
At the top end of the lineup, the R2 will deliver up to 656 horsepower, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds. Even highway passing performance is remarkable, with the vehicle capable of accelerating from 50 to 70 mph in just 1.55 seconds. Depending on configuration, the vehicle is expected to achieve a Rivian-estimated driving range of up to 345 miles, making it suitable for both everyday commuting and extended road trips.
According to RJ Scaringe, founder and CEO of Rivian, the R2 reflects the company’s accumulated experience and design philosophy.
Scaringe explained that the vehicle incorporates many lessons learned from previous Rivian models, highlighting the dedication and passion of the company’s engineering and design teams. He emphasized that the R2 represents a major milestone for Rivian as it continues expanding its lineup and delivering innovative electric vehicles.
Three Distinct Trims for Different Drivers
Rivian has designed the R2 lineup with several trims that offer different combinations of performance, range, and features. Each configuration is intended to meet the needs of different types of drivers while maintaining the brand’s adventure-ready character.
All R2 models will feature a native NACS charging port, allowing direct access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. In addition, drivers will be able to connect to other charging infrastructure using CCS adapter compatibility, ensuring broad charging access across North America.
R2 Performance: The Most Powerful Option
The R2 Performance trim will be the first version available when the vehicle launches in spring 2026. This configuration features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system capable of producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque.

New Colors and Design Customization
The R2 introduces several new exterior paint colors designed to reflect natural environments and landscapes.
One new color, Catalina Cove, is exclusive to the R2 and features a metallic finish that shifts between deep ocean blues and green tones depending on lighting conditions. Another new option, Esker Silver, is inspired by glacial formations and incorporates fine metallic flakes to create a shimmering effect. Half Moon Grey draws inspiration from coastal rock formations and provides a refined metallic gray finish.
These new colors join Rivian’s established palette, which includes Midnight, Glacier White, Forest Green, Borealis, and Launch Green.
Wheel options across the lineup range from 19-inch to 21-inch designs, paired with Pirelli or BF Goodrich tires depending on the intended use. All wheel options maintain a consistent 32-inch overall diameter.
Interior Design Focused on Utility and Comfort
Inside the cabin, Rivian has adopted a design philosophy that blends minimalism with practical utility. The interior emphasizes natural materials, clean lines, and thoughtful storage solutions.
The R2 offers seating for five adults, with ample interior space and panoramic visibility. Premium trims feature interior themes such as Black Crater Signature, inspired by volcanic rock tones, and Coastal Cloud Signature, which features lighter colors reminiscent of coastal skies.
Storage is another highlight of the design. The vehicle offers 90.1 cubic feet of total enclosed storage space, including a 5.2 cubic foot front trunk capable of holding luggage or outdoor gear.
The fold-flat rear seats create a completely level cargo floor, allowing the vehicle to easily carry bikes, camping equipment, or other large items.
Built for Both City and Adventure
The R2 has been engineered to be more compact and agile than Rivian’s larger vehicles. It is nearly 2,000 pounds lighter than the R1 series and sits on a shorter 115.6-inch wheelbase, improving maneuverability in urban environments.
Despite its smaller size, the SUV retains impressive off-road capability. The R2 offers 9.6 inches of ground clearance, along with strong approach and departure angles that make it suitable for rugged terrain.
The vehicle’s structural battery pack also lowers the center of gravity, improving stability and driving dynamics.
Advanced Technology and Software Architecture
Rivian has positioned the R2 as a software-defined vehicle featuring advanced computing power and connectivity. The SUV includes a multi-sensor perception system composed of 11 high-resolution cameras and five radar units, enabling a wide range of driver assistance features.
The vehicle will support Rivian Autonomy+, an optional hands-free driver assistance system capable of operating on more than 3.5 million miles of roads in North America.
Inside the cabin, Rivian has integrated 200 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of AI computing power dedicated to the vehicle’s digital features. This processing capability supports future functions such as the Rivian Assistant, an in-vehicle voice assistant designed to manage vehicle controls and driver interactions.
The steering wheel also introduces haptic halo dials, which provide tactile feedback for adjusting settings without distracting the driver.
Two digital displays—one in front of the driver and another in the center of the dashboard—provide access to navigation, vehicle controls, and entertainment features.
