The Ferrari F80 launch will be remembered as a milestone in the brand’s rich history, joining the ranks of iconic models like the GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari. Limited to 799 units, this futuristic supercar made its debut at the Finali Mondiali, Ferrari’s season-ending event, held at Imola’s Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari from October 15-21, 2024. Enthusiasts were treated to a showcase of Ferrari’s racing legacy, with the F80 displayed alongside historic models, Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship-winning 499Ps, the 296 GT3, and the 296 Challenge.
On the closing day, the F80 took to the track, parading with Ferrari’s 499Ps, 296 GT3s, and other exclusive Corse Clienti models. The F80 boasts a motorsport-derived engine and transmission, borrowing components from Ferrari’s Le Mans-winning 499P, alongside Formula 1-inspired tech like the e-turbo (MGU-H) and advanced aerodynamics. Its active rear wing, underbody design, and triple-wing front S-Duct produce a remarkable 1050 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. The car’s 3.0-liter, 120° V6 engine delivers 900 hp, achieving a record-breaking 300 hp per liter. Paired with a 300 hp electric front axle and MGU-K, the F80 becomes Ferrari’s most powerful road car to date.
The carbon-fiber cabin, designed with the driver’s experience in mind, uses Ferrari’s “1+” layout to minimize drag and weight, enhancing performance and preserving comfort. The advanced active suspension system, adapted from the Purosangue, includes independent 48V double-wishbone suspension, in-board shock absorbers, and 3D-printed upper arms, pushing the limits of handling and precision.
The system can provide the F80 with a very stiff suspension for the track, where ride height needs to be minimised and ground effect maximised, and at the same time demonstrate outstanding road absorption qualities, combining research into sheer performance with the concept of usability in all driving conditions.
These ambitious values propel the Ferrari F80 into a new dimension, with a futuristic style impact that references the fascinating world of the aerospace industry: the F80 is a car from the future.
