Inspired by the Italian island of Murano, renowned for its centuries-old glassmaking heritage, the all-new 2025 Nissan Murano takes its name and spirit from this artisanal tradition. Set to debut in early 2025, this premium crossover exemplifies Nissan’s commitment to artistry and innovation.
One standout feature of the design is the glass-like trim on the dashboard, a detail that Senior Design Director Giovanny Arroba is particularly proud of. “We developed a three-layer finisher that provides a beautiful color gradation, reminiscent of Murano glass,” Arroba said. This exquisite attention to detail reflects the countless hours Nissan’s design team spent perfecting the Murano.
Guided by a philosophy of “energetic elegance,” the design team set out to make the new Murano both dynamic and sleek, yet poised and luxurious. “We wanted it to be striking,” Arroba explained. “At first glance, you want to walk up to it. You want to get in and drive it.”
To achieve this, Nissan’s designers expanded the Murano’s width to 78 inches, increasing its stance by nearly three inches for a more substantial presence. “Murano’s proportions are key,” said Program Design Director Tase Nobutaka. “Its wide stance gives it a confident, energetic feel.”
The vehicle’s design is heavily influenced by nature, with horizontal lines that evoke the grandeur of the horizon. These lines stretch from the headlamps to the rear fender, complemented by a sleek LED light bar in the rear. Designers reimagined the rear profile, relocating the license plate to the lower bumper for a cleaner look and concealing the wiper blade in the rear diffuser to eliminate visual clutter. “This allows the beautiful horizontal light bar to stand out,” Arroba said.
At the front, the 2025 Murano features the thinnest headlamps of any Nissan sold in the U.S., creating a sleek and modern look. “We wanted a thin, almost mask-like band connecting the headlights to elevate the car’s presence,” Arroba explained.
Nissan’s commitment to quality extends to even the smallest details. Designers focused on reducing gaps between body panels, ensuring seamless alignment from the hood to the headlamps and across the doors and rear fenders. “The flawless integration of the body panels creates a sense of continuity,” Arroba said.
Inside, the Murano’s cabin reflects exceptional craftsmanship. Every detail, from the carefully stitched dashboard to the unique seat quilting, embodies the Japanese concept of omotenashi—elevated hospitality. Designers aimed to create an environment where drivers feel like they’ve entered a sanctuary. “It’s like a spa retreat,” Arroba said. “We want the driver to feel pampered.”
The seats feature a stunning mix of materials, including available deep blue-and-black quilted leather. In keeping with the vehicle’s horizon theme, the upper and lower parts of the seats are subtly differentiated in color. Even the steering wheel is a two-spoke, horizontally oriented design. “It mirrors the harmony you feel when watching a sunset,” Arroba said. “There’s such a powerful natural beauty in the horizon.”
Technology is seamlessly integrated into the 2025 Murano. Every trim level comes standard with dual 12.3-inch displays, designed to blend naturally into the dashboard. “We didn’t want to simply place the screens in,” Arroba explained. “We wrapped them in stitched materials so they feel fully integrated.” Below the screens, climate controls—similar to those found in the Nissan Ariya—are touch-capacitive and embedded in wood-like trim, creating a warm, cohesive tech elegance.
The 2025 Murano strikes a perfect balance between energy and calm, showcasing years of refinement and global collaboration. “Our goal was to create a beautiful vehicle, one that is equal parts form and function,” Arroba said. “It’s a spectacular evolution of the Murano family.
