In a celebration of health, fitness, and camaraderie, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced its enthusiastic participation in the prestigious Global Toyota Ekiden Relay Race 2024. The event will take place on December 8th at Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, and will see representatives from TKM join teams from around the world. This year marks a significant milestone for TKM, as 20 employees—equally split between men and women—will represent India at this iconic race. For the first time, 10 women will join the team, highlighting TKM’s commitment to promoting gender diversity and creating equitable opportunities within its workforce.
The inclusion of women as half of the delegation reflects TKM’s sustained efforts to foster a workplace culture that values inclusivity and celebrates the contributions of all employees. Gender diversity, as embraced by TKM, is seen not only as a step toward equity but as a driver of innovation and a key factor in building a dynamic, forward-thinking organization.
The Ekiden relay race, deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, symbolizes unity, resilience, and collaboration—principles that align seamlessly with Toyota’s core values. Since 2005, TKM has embraced the Ekiden tradition as a means of inspiring its workforce to prioritize health, teamwork, and personal growth. Inspired by Toyota Motor Corporation’s global emphasis on employee well-being, TKM regularly organizes fitness initiatives, including internal marathons and relay events. These programs underscore Toyota’s philosophy that a healthy body and mind are essential to achieving happiness and productivity in both personal and professional spheres.
This year’s TKM Ekiden team exemplifies the collaborative ethos of the organization, with participants selected from diverse divisions across the company. The women’s team comprises Lavanya D.N., M. Shendure Madhavi, Ranjitha K., B.L. Chaithra, Saritha, Kavana N.R., Deepika K., Soumya Jammihal, Aishwarya D.J., and Meghana S. Acharya. The participants have been preparing rigorously for months, undergoing a series of time trials, endurance training, and practice runs. This intense preparation aims to refine their athletic capabilities, enhance their teamwork, and build their resilience. Beyond physical training, the process has fostered meaningful connections among the team members, creating a sense of camaraderie that will undoubtedly fuel their collective success during the race.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. G. Shankara, Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, remarked:
“The Ekiden relay race is a shining example of the power of teamwork and inclusivity. We are immensely proud to see our employees represent TKM on this prestigious global platform. As the TKM team gears up to join their global counterparts in Japan, their participation underscores Toyota’s unwavering commitment to fostering a healthier, more inclusive workforce. The Ekiden race, while a test of athleticism and endurance, also serves as a testament to the company’s dedication to cultivating a culture of collaboration, resilience, and shared purpose.
For TKM, the Global Toyota Ekiden Relay Race 2024 is more than a sporting event—it is a platform for showcasing the company’s values and celebrating its diverse and talented workforce. The employees representing TKM carry with them the shared principles of health, teamwork, and resilience, exemplifying Toyota’s belief that nurturing these qualities within its people leads to greater achievements and stronger connections across the organization.
