Allego Unveils Complete Network Implementation of Plug & Charge Technology Using OCPP 2.0.1

Allego, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, is excited to announce the upcoming full rollout of its innovative Plug & Charge technology across its entire network. Starting in Q4 2024, this rollout marks a significant advancement in Allego’s mission to provide a seamless, secure, and future-ready charging experience for EV drivers throughout Europe.

Allego’s Plug & Charge technology eliminates the need for RFID cards, bank cards, and mobile apps by offering automatic authentication and payment when an EV is plugged in, removing the need for manual input. This new feature simplifies the payment process and delivers a consistent charging experience across various networks and regions, enhancing convenience for drivers even beyond Allego’s network.

Guillaume Goijen, Director of Charging Solutions & Site Design at Allego, stated, “We are thrilled to introduce Allego’s Plug & Charge as part of our dedication to prioritizing drivers. This technology simplifies the charging process while ensuring each session is secure and protected against tampering, thanks to our use of certificate-based authentication with encrypted communication.”

The Plug & Charge technology from Allego is based on the latest OCPP 2.0.1 protocol, providing enhanced security and compatibility with future EV and charging technologies. This rollout represents the most secure Plug & Charge implementation currently available, made possible through Allego’s partnerships with industry leaders like Alpitronic and Ford.

Alexis Galley, Chief Technology Officer at Allego, commented, “We are at the forefront of the industry by introducing the most secure and user-friendly Plug & Charge solution. Our technology not only meets current needs but is also designed to evolve with future advancements, offering peace of mind to EV drivers as they shift towards more sustainable transportation.”

Joerg Hofmeister, European Head of Charging & Energy, Model e at Ford Motor Company, added, “Ford is proud to partner with Allego to equip European dealer sites with High Power Charging infrastructure and fully support this innovative Plug & Charge technology. It aligns perfectly with our goal of making electric vehicle ownership more convenient and accessible. By simplifying the charging process, we are breaking down barriers to EV adoption and providing the seamless experience that Ford customers expect.”

Wolfgang Ademmer, CMO of Alpitronic, stated, “Partnering with Allego on the implementation of Plug & Charge technology is a crucial step in advancing electric mobility. Our collaboration ensures that drivers experience maximum security and unmatched convenience at every charging station across Europe.”

The full rollout of Allego’s Plug & Charge technology will commence in Q4 2024, starting in the Netherlands and Germany, followed by a phased expansion throughout Allego’s extensive European network.
