Archer Unveils Midnight ‘Launch Edition’ with ADA as First Customer for 2025 Deployment

Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) unveiled its “Launch Edition”

Today, Archer Aviation unveiled its “Launch Edition” commercialization program for the Midnight aircraft, a pivotal initiative aimed at establishing a structured, scalable approach to urban air mobility. The program seeks to develop a replicable model for deploying the Midnight aircraft in numerous early adopter markets before securing type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This strategic move underscores Archer’s commitment to revolutionizing urban transportation through electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) technology.

As the first Launch Edition customer, Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA) is set to integrate an initial fleet of Midnight aircraft into its operations later this year. Archer and ADA will work closely over the coming months to introduce Midnight to Abu Dhabi’s skies, with a targeted passenger flight planned for later this year. The partnership encompasses a range of collaborative efforts, including pilot training, flight operations, and community engagement, all essential components in fostering a successful launch.

Beyond delivering the Midnight aircraft, Archer plans to provide ADA with a dedicated team of pilots, technicians, and engineers to facilitate a seamless operational rollout. These experts will support initial deployment efforts, ensuring safety and efficiency at every stage. Additionally, Archer will supply backend software infrastructure and a front-end booking application, integral to powering the urban air mobility ecosystem envisioned under the Launch Edition program.

This partnership was solidified during a formal signing ceremony alongside the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, where ADA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlining a framework for funding the deployment of Midnight Launch Edition aircraft. This agreement represents a significant step in fostering the growth of eVTOL operations in the region, with Abu Dhabi positioning itself at the forefront of advanced air mobility solutions.

His Excellency Nader Al Hammadi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Aviation, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “We have been observing the advancements in eVTOL technology for years, and we are proud to partner with Archer to bring this innovation to the UAE. Abu Dhabi Aviation has the expertise to develop a scalable urban air mobility service, and we are excited to lead the way in launching the region’s first electric air taxi service, starting right here in Abu Dhabi.”

Archer remains committed to working alongside ADA, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and other regional partners to successfully launch electric air taxi services in Abu Dhabi this year. This multi-stakeholder approach ensures regulatory alignment, infrastructure readiness, and community acceptance, all crucial factors in the widespread adoption of eVTOL technology.

Adam Goldstein, CEO and Founder of Archer, highlighted the significance of the Launch Edition program in the company’s broader vision: “The unveiling of our Launch Edition program marks the beginning of the next chapter for Archer. This is how we’ll bring Midnight from the manufacturing line to our first customers—and it’s a playbook we’ll run repeatedly as we scale our operations globally. Thank you to Abu Dhabi Aviation for being our first Launch Edition customer. We have a big year ahead.”

Archer’s ambition extends beyond Abu Dhabi, with plans to implement its Launch Edition strategy across multiple global markets. By refining operational processes and engaging with regulatory authorities, Archer aims to create a seamless transition from prototype to commercial deployment. The company’s overarching goal is to transform urban transportation by replacing lengthy, traffic-congested commutes with efficient, sustainable air travel.

The Midnight aircraft itself represents a breakthrough in eVTOL technology. Designed as a piloted, four-passenger vehicle, Midnight is engineered for high-frequency, short-haul flights, with rapid turnaround times between trips. With an emphasis on safety, low noise levels, and environmental sustainability, Midnight is poised to redefine urban mobility, offering a viable alternative to conventional ground transportation.

By leveraging electric propulsion, the Midnight aircraft significantly reduces emissions compared to traditional aircraft and automobiles. Its quiet operation addresses one of the primary concerns associated with urban air travel, making it suitable for deployment in densely populated areas. Additionally, Archer has designed Midnight with cost competitiveness in mind, ensuring that air taxi services remain accessible to a broad demographic.

Archer’s collaboration with Abu Dhabi Aviation is just the beginning of a broader effort to establish eVTOL as a mainstream transportation solution. As urban populations continue to grow and traffic congestion worsens, the need for efficient, time-saving alternatives becomes more pressing. By introducing Midnight into early adopter markets, Archer aims to demonstrate the practical benefits of eVTOL technology, paving the way for wider adoption in cities worldwide.

The success of the Launch Edition program in Abu Dhabi will serve as a crucial benchmark for future deployments. Archer and ADA will closely monitor operational performance, customer feedback, and regulatory developments to refine their approach. Lessons learned from this initial rollout will inform future expansions, ensuring that subsequent markets benefit from an optimized, well-tested commercialization strategy.
