AUMOVIO Expands Plant to Boost Automotive Safety Production

AUMOVIO Announces $110 Million Expansion of New Braunfels Plant to Accelerate Automotive Safety Technology Production

AUMOVIO, formerly part of Continental’s Automotive group sector, today unveiled plans for a $110 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in New Braunfels, Texas. The investment is part of the company’s long-term strategic vision to strengthen production capabilities for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and other autonomous mobility solutions in North America.

The expansion project will include a 65,000 square-foot addition to the existing plant, along with a cutting-edge automated warehouse designed to streamline production and logistics. Upon completion, the facility is expected to more than double the current production floor space and create approximately 100 new, high-quality jobs, reinforcing AUMOVIO’s commitment to local economic growth. The upgraded plant is scheduled to become fully operational by August 2027.

“This expansion represents the culmination of our team’s hard work and dedication to meeting the evolving demands of our customers,” said Ibro Muharemovic, Head of Autonomous Mobility North America at AUMOVIO. “The investment aligns perfectly with our long-term planning and growth objectives, and we are excited to see this vision realized.”

Responding to Growing ADAS Demand

AUMOVIO is recognized globally as a leading supplier of components for advanced driver assistance systems. With vehicle safety standards evolving and autonomous driving technologies advancing rapidly, demand for ADAS solutions—including radar sensors, cameras, and sensor fusion systems—has surged. This expansion is a proactive step to meet that increasing demand, particularly among North American automotive manufacturers.

Earlier in 2025, AUMOVIO secured a major series order for radar sensors from North American clients with a combined order value of approximately €1.5 billion ($1.5 billion). The New Braunfels facility will play a central role in fulfilling this order, producing critical components that contribute to vehicle safety and autonomous driving capabilities. The company’s strategy ensures that its manufacturing operations remain agile and scalable to meet both current and future market requirements.

State-of-the-Art Facility and Technology

The New Braunfels plant, originally opened in 2022, marked AUMOVIO’s first greenfield facility for Autonomous Mobility in the United States. The plant has been producing life-saving radar technology that supports a range of vehicle safety and ADAS applications. With the expansion, the facility will incorporate next-generation manufacturing technologies, including a fully automated warehouse system, robotics-assisted assembly lines, and advanced quality control processes to enhance efficiency and production precision.

AUMOVIO’s partnership with Aurora Innovation further underscores the plant’s strategic importance. The New Braunfels location will contribute to the development and production of hardware for the Aurora Driver system and its fallback solutions, which aim to provide commercially scalable autonomous driving capabilities for trucking fleets. This collaboration positions AUMOVIO at the forefront of autonomous mobility innovation in North America.

Brandon Lane, plant manager at New Braunfels, emphasized the facility’s impact on both the local community and the global automotive industry: “Since opening in 2022, we’ve grown our workforce to nearly 500 employees and produced approximately 13 million radar sensors. This expansion enables us to continue that trajectory, supporting not only our customers but also the local economy. We are proud of what we have built here and are committed to sustaining momentum into the future.”

AUMOVIO’s Strategic Evolution

Since its spin-off in September 2025, AUMOVIO has operated independently, continuing the legacy of the former Continental Automotive group sector. As a technology and electronics company, AUMOVIO provides a comprehensive portfolio of solutions that make mobility safer, more connected, and increasingly autonomous.

The company’s product offerings span sensor solutions, displays, braking systems, comfort systems, and complete software platforms for modern, software-defined vehicles. AUMOVIO also delivers end-to-end expertise in advanced driver assistance systems, vehicle architecture, and software integration, positioning it as a key partner for automakers navigating the transition to next-generation mobility.

In the fiscal year 2024, the business areas now under AUMOVIO generated €19.6 billion in revenue, reflecting the global demand for innovative mobility solutions. Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, AUMOVIO employs over 86,000 people across more than 100 locations worldwide, highlighting its extensive global footprint.

Commitment to Local Communities and Workforce Development

Beyond its technological achievements, AUMOVIO emphasizes local economic development and workforce empowerment. The expansion of the New Braunfels plant will create a variety of skilled positions, from engineering and production roles to logistics and warehouse management. Employees will have access to comprehensive training programs, state-of-the-art equipment, and a collaborative work environment designed to foster innovation and professional growth.

“The expansion is not just about increasing production capacity—it’s about investing in people and communities,” Muharemovic noted. “Our employees are the foundation of our success, and we are committed to providing them with the tools, resources, and opportunities to grow alongside the company.”

Meeting the Future of Mobility

As the automotive industry accelerates toward higher levels of vehicle autonomy and electrification, suppliers like AUMOVIO play a critical role in enabling the next generation of mobility solutions. The New Braunfels expansion positions the company to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving market, from increasing ADAS deployment in consumer vehicles to providing reliable hardware for commercial autonomous trucking operations.

ADAS technologies, such as radar and camera systems, are essential for improving vehicle safety and reducing accidents. By expanding its production capabilities, AUMOVIO can ensure that North American automakers have a consistent supply of high-quality components to integrate into their vehicles. The facility’s enhanced manufacturing processes also support faster lead times, improved quality assurance, and greater flexibility for customer-specific projects.

Moreover, AUMOVIO’s focus on software-defined vehicle platforms ensures that its hardware is fully compatible with modern vehicle architectures, enabling seamless integration with autonomous and connected vehicle systems. This holistic approach—combining advanced sensors, intelligent software, and scalable manufacturing—positions AUMOVIO as a trusted partner for automakers navigating the transformation of the mobility landscape.

Industry Recognition and Future Outlook

AUMOVIO’s innovative approach has been recognized globally, reinforcing its reputation as a leader in automotive safety and autonomous mobility. The company’s investments in cutting-edge manufacturing, strategic partnerships, and workforce development underscore a commitment to sustainable growth and technological leadership.

Looking ahead, the New Braunfels facility will continue to play a central role in the company’s North American operations, supporting new product lines, expanding production capacity, and contributing to the global deployment of ADAS and autonomous mobility technologies. By combining local manufacturing excellence with global expertise, AUMOVIO aims to meet the demands of automakers and end consumers alike, delivering solutions that enhance safety, connectivity, and the driving experience.

“This is just the beginning,” Lane said. “We are building the infrastructure today that will allow AUMOVIO to lead the automotive safety and autonomous mobility industry for decades to come. We are excited about the opportunities ahead, both for our employees and for the customers who rely on our technology to make mobility safer and smarter.”
