Barilla Brings the Formula 1 Paddock Family Together at Monza
Ahead of the Formula 1® Italian Grand Prix, Barilla created a special evening at Monza that shifted the focus away from the speed, pressure and competition of the race weekend and toward the people who make success possible.
On Thursday evening, more than 200 members of the Formula 1® community came together for La Tavolata, an unprecedented dinner experience organized by Barilla and Formula 1®. The gathering brought together people from across the sport’s extensive ecosystem, including drivers, Team Principals, engineers, mechanics, strategists, safety and medical car drivers, personal trainers and tire technicians.
Rather than focusing solely on the stars who compete on track, the event celebrated the wider Paddock Family—the people whose expertise, collaboration and trust are essential to every race.
At the heart of the evening was a remarkable table stretching for almost 100 meters across the Monza grid. Set with plates, pasta and Italian-inspired hospitality, the long table symbolized the central message behind La Tavolata: great performance is never achieved by one person alone.
Formula 1 is often defined by individual moments of brilliance—the perfect qualifying lap, a decisive overtaking maneuver, a precise pit stop or a perfectly timed strategy call. Yet behind each of those moments is a much larger team working together under enormous pressure. La Tavolata provided an opportunity to recognize those contributions and bring the people behind the performance together in a setting away from the intensity of competition.
Celebrating the People Behind Every Race

Among those attending was VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda, who joined his Race Engineer Alexandre Iliopoulos and other members of the Formula 1 community for the celebration.

Massimo Bottura Brings Italian Hospitality to the Grid
Adding a distinctive culinary dimension to the evening, the dinner was curated by renowned three-Michelin-starred chef Massimo Bottura.
Known internationally for combining Italian culinary traditions with creativity and innovation, Bottura designed a menu centered around Barilla pasta. The dinner was delivered in partnership with DO&CO, Official Supplier to the F1 Paddock Club.
The choice of pasta was particularly fitting for an event designed around togetherness. In Italian culture, food has long represented hospitality, community and connection, and the shared table provided a natural setting for Formula 1’s diverse group of professionals to come together.
Bottura explained that the idea of teamwork is just as important in professional kitchens as it is in motorsport.
“Great performances are never a solo effort,” Bottura said. “Whether aiming for the podium in Monza or running a Michelin restaurant, success always belongs to the team.”
He also drew a direct connection between his own culinary philosophy and the concept behind La Tavolata.
“That is why I always say, ‘On my own I am Massimo Bottura; together we are the Francescana Family’,” he said.
For Bottura, the evening was therefore not simply a dinner. It represented a celebration of the people and relationships that make high-performance environments successful.

Yuki Tsunoda Highlights the Importance of Trust

Yuki Tsunoda reflected on that relationship after attending the dinner.
“I’m so happy to have been able to join La Tavolata this evening with Barilla,” Tsunoda said. “In Formula 1, you’re never driving alone and tonight showcased all the people it takes to win on and off track.”
He emphasized that teamwork is fundamental to the sport and that informal moments such as La Tavolata can help strengthen relationships.
“Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do, and it’s in these moments where you build those relationships and trust,” Tsunoda said.
Race weekends rarely provide enough time for people from different areas of the paddock to simply sit together and talk. With tight schedules and intense competitive pressure, interactions are often focused on immediate tasks.
According to Tsunoda, that made the dinner particularly meaningful.
“It’s something we rarely get to do during a race weekend so to do this was pretty special,” he said.
Nico Rosberg Reflects on the Human Side of Racing
Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg also highlighted the importance of relationships developed away from the cameras.
Reflecting on his own racing career, Rosberg explained that some of the most important connections were formed outside the public spotlight.
“When I was racing, some of the most important relationships were built away from the cameras,” Rosberg said. “With engineers, mechanics, strategists and everyone who had to trust each other when the pressure was at its highest.”
His comments reinforced the central theme of La Tavolata: the human relationships behind Formula 1 performance are just as important as technology and engineering.
Modern Formula 1 is one of the most technologically advanced sporting environments in the world. Teams rely on sophisticated simulation systems, data analysis, advanced materials, aerodynamic development and highly precise engineering.

Paolo Barilla, Vice Chairman of Barilla Group and a former Formula 1® driver, offered a unique perspective on the connection between racing, teamwork and trust.
Having experienced Formula 1 from inside the cockpit, Barilla understands the importance of the people surrounding a driver.
“When I raced in Formula 1, I learned very quickly that every lap, every decision and every result depended also on the people around me,” Barilla said.
