“UNO, UNO!” – BMW Group Launches In-Car Gaming Experience
When was the last time you played UNO™? This classic card game, where players match colors and numbers, first debuted in 1971, created by a barber in Ohio. Since 1992, Mattel has distributed the game in Germany. Over 30 years later, Mattel, Inc., in collaboration with AirConsole and the BMW Group, has launched the world premiere of UNO® Car Party!
Fun and Games Inside the Car
August 21, 2024, marked the launch of UNO® Car Party!, available over-the-air through the AirConsole platform in more than 500,000 BMW and MINI vehicles. Attendees at the world’s largest computer gaming show had the chance to preview the game at gamescom.
Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President of Connected Company and Technical Operations at BMW Group, expressed his enthusiasm for this advancement in digitalization: “We are continually enhancing the overall digital experience for our customers. Our partners AirConsole and Mattel are transforming in-car gaming into a new social experience, and I am thrilled to offer a beloved family game like UNO™ as part of this exciting innovation.”
Together, Mattel, AirConsole, and BMW Group have reimagined UNO™ as a connected game, introducing a unique environment: the car. Once the vehicle is parked, occupants can connect their devices using AirConsole’s distinctive game controller system, allowing up to four players to enjoy some fun and entertainment together.
“UNO perfectly showcases the strengths of AirConsole with a game accessible to everyone, a tailored integration with car hardware, and our phone-controlled gaming experience,” said Anthony Cliquot, CEO of AirConsole. “Each player can secretly view their own cards on their phone while playing on the car’s infotainment system. This experience would be impossible with just touchscreen or Bluetooth controls on the infotainment system.”
Leading the Way in In-Car Entertainment Since 2022
The partnership between the BMW Group and AirConsole has been at the forefront of in-car gaming since 2022, introducing intuitive and innovative gameplay to BMW and MINI vehicles. In addition to UNO® Car Party!, other titles include the in-car world premiere of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, BMW Group, and AirConsole. AirConsole is accessible in current models featuring BMW/MINI Operating System 9, in conjunction with the BMW Digital Premium/MINI Connected Package, and in models with BMW Operating System 8.5* alongside BMW ConnectedDrive Professional.
