Charge Point, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has received over $19 million through its partners to install 248 DC fast charging ports across 45 locations along California highways. This funding, approved last week by the California Energy Commission (CEC) and the California Department of Transportation, is part of the initial allocation from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. These new stations will be strategically located on some of California’s busiest highways, addressing existing EV charger congestion.
Charge Point is dedicated to providing world-class solutions for all charging needs, whether at home or on the road,” stated Rick Wilmer, Charge Point’s President and CEO. “With these recent awards from California, we continue to expand NEVI-funded fast charging options nationwide, ensuring all EV drivers can access charging when and where they need it through the Charge Point mobile app.”
ChargePoint has been a frontrunner in securing NEVI funding, with nearly $90 million allocated for almost 150 sites, encompassing around 700 fast charging ports across 21 states. The NEVI program aims to enhance the availability of reliable DC fast charging along U.S. highways.
Most of the new sites will feature ChargePoint Express Plus stations, a modular DC fast charging solution capable of delivering speeds up to 500kW. This platform supports simultaneous charging for two vehicles and utilizes advanced cooling technology to maintain peak charging speeds, ensuring efficient service for EV drivers.
