Continental is set to invest in its first fully owned tire distribution center in the U.S., located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This new facility aims to enhance service levels and customer support for Continental Tires the Americas. Designed with future growth in mind, the center will incorporate modern technologies and align with the company’s sustainability goals. Construction will begin in September 2024, and the facility will have an initial storage capacity of over 800,000 tires, with operations expected to start in 2026. The building will span 753,000 square feet initially, with potential expansion to 1,255,000 square feet.
The decision to build in the Dallas-Fort Worth area was based on a network study by Continental, which identified it as a key distribution hub for the premium tire manufacturer. Currently, Continental serves the U.S. market through seven distribution centers. “This is our first owned tire distribution center in the U.S., and it demonstrates our commitment to improving service levels and better meeting our customers’ needs,” said Bill Caldwell, Senior Vice President of Continental Passenger Car and Light Truck Tires in the U.S. He added that the center will feature advanced automation and sustainability technologies, including solar panels, and serve as a model for future designs focused on automation and renewable energy.
Continental is also investing in the digitalization and automation of its global manufacturing processes across its 20 tire plants in 16 countries. These efforts include research and development of new technologies, alternative materials, eco-friendly production, and improved logistics. The company aims to achieve 100% climate neutrality across its value chain by 2050.
