Daimler Truck Financial Services and GEICO Partner to Launch Data-Driven Connected Insurance Program for Trucking Customers
Daimler Truck Financial Services USA LLC (DTFS) and GEICO, one of the nation’s most recognized insurance providers, have announced the launch of Connected Insurance, an advanced, data-driven program designed to deliver cost savings and promote safer driving for Freightliner and Western Star truck owners. Administered through DTFS’s subsidiary, Daimler Truck Insurance Agency LLC, the initiative reflects a new era of insurance innovation in the commercial trucking sector.
Data-Powered Insurance for Owner-Operators and Small Fleets
The Connected Insurance program enhances GEICO’s DriveEasy Pro platform by integrating real-time telematics data from Daimler Truck’s Detroit Connect system. Through this collaboration, Freightliner and Western Star customers can voluntarily share their vehicle performance and driving data to receive more accurate premium pricing and rewards for safe driving behavior.
Unlike traditional programs that require additional on-board diagnostics (OBD) devices or dashcam installations, Connected Insurance utilizes the truck’s existing telematics hardware, ensuring a seamless and cost-effective experience. Eligible drivers and fleets can save up to 10% on their commercial vehicle insurance premiums, while also benefiting from faster claims processing and improved service accuracy.
Enhancing Efficiency and Supporting Safer Operations
Kevin Bangston, President and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services North America, emphasized that the partnership underscores DTFS’s mission to deliver innovative and customer-focused financial products.
Daimler Truck Financial Services will always be focused on delivering comprehensive and innovative financial solutions tailored to the unique needs of our customers,” said Bangston. “This strategic partnership with GEICO introduces a smart, data-driven insurance option that helps our customers reduce one of their largest operational expenses.”
Chris Sions, Head of Partnerships at GEICO, highlighted how Daimler Truck’s telematics capabilities improve underwriting precision and risk management.
Real-time data from Daimler Truck’s telematics platform allows us to better assess risk, reward safe driving, and deliver meaningful savings to our customers,” said Sions. “Expanding our commercial trucking insurance nationwide requires strong partnerships like the one we’ve built with Daimler Truck Financial Services.”
Addressing a Major Industry Challenge
The launch of Connected Insurance comes at a pivotal time for the trucking industry. According to the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), rising insurance costs remain one of the top four operational challenges facing carriers, especially independent owner-operators and small fleets. Insurance expenses have increased steadily over the past decade, putting financial strain on smaller businesses that already face narrow profit margins.
By aligning telematics-based data insights with tailored insurance solutions, DTFS and GEICO aim to alleviate this burden. Connected Insurance not only offers potential premium reductions but also promotes safer driving habits through performance-based incentives. This approach aligns with broader industry efforts to enhance safety, efficiency, and financial sustainability within the commercial trucking sector.
GEICO Expands into the Commercial Trucking Market
GEICO’s introduction of Connected Insurance represents a significant expansion of its commercial insurance portfolio. Backed by Berkshire Hathaway, GEICO brings nearly 90 years of automotive insurance experience and a strong reputation for efficient claims service. The new program was developed in collaboration with owner-operators, fleet managers, and industry experts to address the unique operational realities of the trucking business.

By leveraging real-world telematics data and advanced analytics, GEICO can deliver customized insurance offerings that reflect actual driving behavior and vehicle performance. This precision-driven model ensures fairer pricing, faster claims resolution, and broader coverage flexibility for customers operating Freightliner and Western Star vehicles.
Strengthening the Connected Truck Ecosystem
For Daimler Truck Financial Services, the Connected Insurance program represents more than just a financial product—it’s part of a broader strategy to enhance the connected ownership experience. DTFS continues to explore innovative applications for Detroit Connect data across its portfolio, from optimizing financing terms to supporting predictive maintenance and operational efficiency.
By using data insights from connected trucks, DTFS is building a holistic ecosystem that supports customers throughout the vehicle lifecycle—from purchase and financing to daily operation and resale. The Connected Insurance initiative demonstrates how digital integration can extend beyond vehicle performance to create tangible financial benefits for drivers and fleet owners alike.
A Step Toward the Future of Smart Trucking
As the trucking industry embraces connectivity, automation, and digital fleet management, the partnership between Daimler Truck Financial Services and GEICO reflects the future of smart mobility solutions. By combining telematics, data analytics, and insurance innovation, the companies are setting a new benchmark for how financial and safety performance can intersect to benefit drivers, fleets, and insurers.
Through Connected Insurance, DTFS and GEICO are not only improving affordability and transparency in commercial vehicle coverage but also empowering the trucking community to adopt safer, more efficient practices that shape the future of the industry.
