EV Edison Launches East Coast’s Largest Multi-Class EV Charging Hub in Kearny, NJ
EV Edison, a premier electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure developer, has officially unveiled its flagship charging and fleet services hub in Kearny, New Jersey—positioning itself at the forefront of transportation electrification on the U.S. East Coast. Strategically located near the Port of Newark, the Holland Tunnel, and major interstate highways, the facility offers a comprehensive ecosystem for EV fleet operators and stands as the largest multi-class EV charging hub in the region.
High-Powered, Scalable Infrastructure
Phase 1 of the Kearny site includes 30 high-powered charging ports, each capable of delivering 180 kW. This first phase alone establishes the facility as the largest operational multi-class EV charging location on the East Coast. Plans are already in place to expand capacity and services in subsequent phases to meet increasing demand from light-, medium-, and heavy-duty electric fleets.
“This facility is about more than just charging—it’s about enabling the next generation of clean, connected logistics,” said Dr. Shihab Kuran, Executive Chairman of EV Edison. “We’ve built a durable, scalable solution that goes beyond infrastructure by addressing the full spectrum of operational needs for today’s electrified fleets.”
A Full-Service Ecosystem for Fleet Operators
Beyond high-powered charging, the site offers a host of amenities and services designed to support 24/7 logistics operations, including:
- Round-the-clock high-security access
- Ample parking and staging areas for electric trucks
- Public charging for passenger EVs
- Onsite food and beverage options
- Driver lounges and rest areas
- Flexible office and logistics space for fleet managers
The comprehensive design of the hub reflects EV Edison’s focus on creating an all-in-one solution that simplifies EV adoption for logistics providers, leasing companies, and fleet operators.
Supporting Global Freight Leaders
One of the hub’s inaugural users is Einride, a global leader in electric and autonomous freight transportation. Einride has already begun staging its vehicles at the Kearny site and is leveraging the facility to offer zero-emission transport options to regional partners.
“This site gives us a powerful strategic foothold to expand our electric fleet presence in the Northeast,” said Chelsea Thompson, Director of Operations at Einride. “EV Edison’s infrastructure, location, and services provide the ideal foundation as we scale clean freight solutions in this vital logistics corridor.”
A Regional Catalyst for Clean Transportation
Located on land owned by Hugo Neu Realty, a long-standing New Jersey-based industrial developer with a track record of sustainable innovation, the Kearny hub is part of a broader effort to revitalize industrial infrastructure in the region.
“This project is a transformative step for Kearny and the entire regional economy,” said Dominique Lueckenhoff, Executive Vice President of Hugo Neu for Corporate Affairs, EHS, and Sustainability. “EV Edison’s presence is creating clean energy jobs, optimizing underutilized industrial assets, and accelerating leadership in transportation decarbonization.”
Kearny Mayor Carol Jean Doyle echoed this sentiment: “We are proud to host one of the nation’s most forward-looking EV charging facilities. This hub will bring both economic development and environmental benefits to our community.”
Strong Support from Public Sector Leaders
The initiative has drawn praise and backing from key state agencies and energy stakeholders committed to advancing clean mobility in New Jersey.
“This is exactly the type of private-sector innovation that complements our efforts to build a resilient, statewide EV charging network,” said Christine Guhl-Sadovy, President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU). “Making high-powered charging accessible to fleets of all types is critical to maintaining New Jersey’s national leadership in clean transportation.”
Shawn M. LaTourette, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, also lauded the project: “Clean, electric transportation is crucial for protecting air quality and public health. We commend Edison’s commitment to around-the-clock access and to helping clean up our roads and skies.”
Wesley Mathews, President and CEO of Choose New Jersey, reinforced the economic and strategic value of the investment: “ Edison’s cutting-edge site strengthens New Jersey’s role as a critical logistics and clean energy hub while aligning with our broader climate and economic goals.”
Powering the Grid for a Sustainable Future
Energy provider PSE&G has played an instrumental role in supporting Edison’s grid interconnection and site development, enabling high-throughput charging that can accommodate over 200 heavy-duty vehicle sessions per day.
“Transportation electrification is essential to decarbonizing our state,” said Dawn Neville, Manager of Electric Transportation at PSE&G. “We’re proud to collaborate with Edison on this vital project and look forward to supporting similar efforts as adoption continues to rise.”
Built for Expansion and Innovation
Edison designed the Kearny facility with scalability and long-term growth in mind. According to Yazan Harasis, Vice President of Projects at Edison, “Phase I was engineered to meet the real-world needs of freight operators today, while being easily expandable to handle more vehicles, classes, and services tomorrow.”
Wilbur C. Milhouse III, Chairman and CEO of Milhouse Engineering & Construction, underscored the hub’s impact: “As a Black-owned engineering firm dedicated to resilient infrastructure, we were honored to help deliver a project of this scope and purpose. Edison’s vision for a cleaner future is bold, and this facility brings that vision into reality.”
A Model for Collaborative Electrification
The hub also exemplifies the kind of cross-sector collaboration necessary to accelerate adoption at scale.
“To ensure electric transportation is accessible to all fleets and communities, we need unified voices and bold infrastructure like this,” said Pam Frank, CEO of ChargC. “ Edison’s Kearny hub is a blueprint for what inclusive, electrified logistics can look like.”
As New Jersey prepares to welcome the 2026 FIFA World Cup and ramps up its logistics capabilities, the Kearny hub stands ready to support not only commercial freight but also media transport and fan mobility—firmly integrating itself into the state’s economic and transportation future.
EV Edison is actively encouraging fleet operators, real estate partners, and vehicle leasing companies to reserve charging access at the Kearny facility or explore opportunities to develop their own dedicated high-power charging hubs.
Future expansion phases are already being planned in the New York metropolitan area and beyond, as Edison continues building a network designed to meet the demands of the growing electric fleet market.
