EVgo Inc. (NASDAQ: EVGO), one of the largest public fast-charging networks for electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S., has announced an expansion of its partnership with Meijer, a Midwest grocery retailer. This collaboration aims to enhance public fast charging infrastructure at Meijer locations in six states: Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
The plan includes the installation of up to 480 new public fast-charging stalls at Meijer stores, building on the 24 stalls EVgo has already deployed at six Meijer locations in Michigan and Ohio. By the end of 2026, EVgo expects to open 30 new charging stations, with another 30 stations set to follow by the close of 2027.
“Fast charging should seamlessly fit into drivers’ routines, and grocery store trips are a perfect opportunity,” said Dennis Kish, EVgo President. “As EV adoption grows in the Midwest, our expanded partnership with Meijer underscores our shared commitment to delivering a top-tier charging experience.”
Meijer currently offers EV charging at more than 35% of its stores, aligning with its sustainability initiatives. The retailer has made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint, recently surpassing its goal to cut carbon emissions by 50% a year ahead of schedule.
“Electric vehicle charging is a critical part of our sustainability strategy,” said Erik Petrovskis, Meijer’s Director of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability. “Through our partnership with EVgo, we are advancing efforts to reduce emissions and promote a more sustainable future.”
This initiative is part of EVgo’s broader mission to expand its nationwide customer-focused charging network, supported by a recent conditional commitment for up to $1.05 billion in loan guarantees from the Department of Energy Loan Programs Office.
