Yamaha Unveils New Helm Master EX Wireless Control System at the 2025 Miami International Boat Show
Yamaha Marine’s U.S. Business Unit has made a groundbreaking announcement at the 2025 Miami International Boat Show® with the introduction of an all-new Wireless Control feature for its widely acclaimed Helm Master EX boat control system. This latest innovation offers boaters an unprecedented level of convenience, allowing them to maneuver their vessels effortlessly while having the freedom to move about the deck.
“The new Helm Master EX Wireless Control puts unmatched convenience and control in the palm of boaters’ hands,” said Ben Speciale, President of Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. “This innovative feature transforms the boating experience with enhanced precision, automation, and intelligent functionality. In a nutshell, the new Wireless Control gives captains the opportunity to make the most of their time on the water.”
In addition to introducing this cutting-edge technology, Yamaha provided updates on its ongoing on-water testing of the marine industry’s first hydrogen-powered outboard, which debuted at the 2024 Miami International Boat Show®.
Advancing Hydrogen Technology in Marine Industry
Yamaha has been making significant strides in its efforts to explore alternative energy solutions, and the company is actively testing its hydrogen-powered outboard. Built on Yamaha’s powerful 450-horsepower XTO Offshore® platform, the H2 outboard is undergoing rigorous evaluations at Yamaha’s testing facility in Bridgeport, Alabama.
“Our hydrogen outboard concept is now on the water, and we are learning more about how to optimize its performance every day,” Speciale stated. “We believe in a multiple-technology solution to achieve cleaner products in the marine industry, and hydrogen represents one of the key pathways within our product line. We remain optimistic about its future and look forward to sharing more performance data in the coming months.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Yamaha is exploring a range of carbon-reduction solutions. This includes its acquisition of Torqeedo GmbH, a leader in electric marine propulsion, as well as research into sustainable marine fuels. Yamaha remains committed to developing cutting-edge solutions that reduce environmental impact while maintaining the high performance and reliability the brand is known for.
Helm Master EX Wireless Control: A Game-Changer in Boat Handling
The newly introduced Helm Master EX Wireless Control is designed to provide captains with an enhanced level of flexibility and ease of use. Available in configurations ranging from single to quintuple outboards, the system integrates all Helm Master EX joystick functionalities, autopilot controls, and man overboard (MOB) features.
One of the standout features of the Wireless Control System is its single-handed operation capability, made possible through an ergonomic fingertip button. This allows captains to maintain full joystick boat control while freeing up their other hand to perform essential tasks such as adjusting lines or fenders. The intuitive interface ensures seamless transitions between functions, giving boaters precise control over their vessel at all times.
Captains can monitor critical boat data such as depth, heading, and speed directly from the palm of their hand. This is particularly advantageous when using autopilot functions, as it enables seamless course monitoring while underway. The system allows for instant adjustments and can be used in various boating scenarios, from navigating tight docking situations to maintaining position while fishing.
Enhanced Safety Features and Man Overboard System
Safety has been a top priority in the development of the Helm Master EX Wireless Control System. The system includes an integrated man overboard (MOB) function, which can be a lifesaving feature in emergency situations. If a captain or passenger wearing a MOB fob falls overboard, the system will automatically respond by decelerating the boat to idle speed or shutting off the engines, depending on the severity of the situation.
Each system package includes one captain’s fob and one passenger fob, but the system is designed to support up to eight MOB fobs, ensuring that all passengers can be accounted for. The fobs come equipped with either a wristband or a lanyard, making them easy to wear and keep track of while onboard. This added layer of safety enhances peace of mind for both captains and passengers, especially when navigating challenging waters or rough conditions.
Optimized Autopilot and Boat Positioning Features
With direct access to the Helm Master EX Autopilot system, the Wireless Control allows captains to set heading and course adjustments with ease. Whether at the bow, the flybridge, or the stern, captains can use StayPoint®, FishPoint®, and DriftPoint® functions from anywhere on the boat. This mobility is especially beneficial for those who fish frequently, as they can maintain their ideal position while focusing on the action.
For those anchoring in deep waters or docking in tight spaces, the wireless system offers unparalleled maneuverability. The ability to control engine functions remotely provides captains with the flexibility to position their boat with precision, improving both efficiency and safety. Additionally, the system’s buoyant design ensures that it can be easily retrieved in case it is accidentally dropped overboard.
Battery Life and Charging Convenience
Designed with extended usability in mind, the Helm Master EX Wireless Control System features a battery life of up to eight hours per charge. To enhance convenience, Yamaha offers a custom charging cradle that can be installed anywhere on the boat. This allows boaters to store and charge the wireless controller in a location that best suits their needs, ensuring it is always ready for use.
With its sleek, ergonomic design, the wireless controller is not only functional but also user-friendly. Its intuitive button layout and clear display make it accessible for users of all experience levels, reducing the learning curve and enhancing overall ease of operation.
Availability and Dealer Installation
The Helm Master EX Wireless Control System is scheduled to be available for dealer installation starting in Fall 2025. Boaters who already own a Helm Master EX system can upgrade their software to the latest version to integrate the new wireless functionality seamlessly. Yamaha aims to make the transition to wireless control as smooth as possible for its customers, offering guidance and support through its extensive dealer network.
