EnergyHub, a leading provider of grid-edge flexibility solutions, has partnered with FranklinWH Energy Storage Inc. (FranklinWH), a pioneer in whole-home energy management, to integrate FranklinWH’s energy storage systems with EnergyHub’s Edge Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) platform.
This collaboration aims to enhance Virtual Power Plant (VPP) development across North America by providing customers with more hardware choices and accelerating the adoption of technologies that can support grid stability and peak demand management.
The partnership will enable residential customers to participate in VPPs by using their choice of energy devices, including FranklinWH’s home battery systems. These VPPs, which aggregate distributed energy resources, allow utilities to reduce strain on the grid during periods of high demand and provide a broader range of grid services. “Our collaboration with FranklinWH will unlock more value for VPPs, helping utilities across North America meet grid needs while giving consumers more control over their energy use,” said Matt Johnson, VP of Business Development at EnergyHub. “This integration accelerates the growth of these programs, enabling utilities to include home batteries in cross-DER flexibility initiatives.”
FranklinWH is already active in utility programs in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and North Carolina through its partnership with EnergyHub. As a result, homeowners in participating regions can earn rewards by allowing utilities to discharge their batteries during peak demand events, contributing to grid reliability. Additionally, FranklinWH’s energy storage systems offer homeowners the added benefit of whole-home backup power during outages, enhancing energy resilience.
“At FranklinWH, we’ve seen increasing interest from our customers in flexibility programs,” said Vincent Ambrose, Chief Commercial Officer at FranklinWH. “We’re excited to partner with EnergyHub to meet this growing demand and provide new opportunities for homeowners. As more utilities implement VPPs, it’s essential for all stakeholders to work together to deliver effective solutions.”
The two companies plan to deepen their collaboration in future VPP initiatives throughout the U.S. and Canada, focusing on expanding the benefits of energy storage and helping utilities unlock new grid services.
“This partnership is a significant step forward in promoting energy storage adoption among homeowners and supporting the development of VPPs that enhance grid stability,” said Johnson. “We’re thrilled to welcome FranklinWH into the EnergyHub ecosystem, where we can work together to create a more flexible, reliable, and sustainable energy future.
