TÜV SÜD, a leading global provider of testing, inspection, and certification services, has completed a comprehensive Safety Management System audit of Aurora (NASDAQ: AUR), the autonomous trucking company. The audit found Aurora to be proactive, responsible, and thorough in its safety practices.
During the audit, TÜV SÜD assessed Aurora’s safety policies and programs, including how its Safety Management System supports safety-related decision-making, addresses concerns, measures organizational safety, and emphasizes safety leadership. The audit also reviewed Aurora’s alignment with the Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium Report for Adapting a Safety Management System for Automated Driving System SAE Level 4 and 5 Testing and Evaluation (AVSC00007), a key standard in the U.S. autonomous vehicle industry.
The audit featured in-depth interviews with Aurora team members, including the CEO, to evaluate their safety expertise, adherence to safety programs, policy prioritization, and management of a strong safety culture.
The findings praised the expertise of Aurora’s Safety Team, noting the value of its independent safety organization, which regularly reviews program effectiveness through its Safety Review Board and seeks feedback from external experts, including its Safety Advisory Board.
Bijoy Bhaskaran, Director of the Mobility Division at TÜV SÜD America Inc., commented, “Aurora has consistently adhered to the industry best practice AVSC00007. The company has adapted best practices from other safety-critical industries to enhance its safety processes, marking this as a pioneering audit in the U.S. autonomous vehicle sector.”
Aurora’s Chief Safety Officer, Nat Beuse, added, “Since our inception, we have made safety policies and programs central to the development of our self-driving technology. We are proud that TÜV SÜD’s independent assessment has validated the strength of our safety approach.”
