Jetex and Joby Collaborate to Propel Sustainable Air Mobility

Joby Aviation, a pioneering company in electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, has joined forces with Jute, a global leader in executive aviation, to set new benchmarks for sustainable and seamless connectivity in air travel. The strategic partnership aims to enhance Jute’s customer experience by introducing Job’s innovative electric air taxi services, starting with select locations across the Middle East.

Central to the partnership is the deployment of Joby’s Global Electric Aviation Charging System (GEACS), which will support operations at Jetex terminals. This infrastructure will enable a network of vertiports connecting passengers efficiently and sustainably across the region, including between Emirates. The initiative highlights a shared commitment to revolutionizing the aviation industry with greener, quieter, and more efficient transportation options.

A Vision for Greener Skies

Adel Mardini, Founder and CEO of Jetex, emphasized the alignment of the partnership with Jetex’s sustainability goals:

“At Jetex, sustainability is a key focus of our strategy, and our partnership with Joby represents an important step forward in achieving our vision of greener skies. We are committed to driving innovation that reduces our industry’s environmental impact, and integrating Joby’s electric air taxis into our network allows us to deliver cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable travel experiences, starting in the UAE.”

Jetex, known for its state-of-the-art VIP terminals, operates flagship locations at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai and Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi. These terminals provide seamless access to prominent financial, tourist, and entertainment hubs within the UAE. The integration of renewable energy solutions and innovative practices at these locations underscores Jetex’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint. The collaboration with Joby is a testament to Jetex’s commitment to eco-conscious advancements in private aviation.

Advancing Urban Air Mobility

JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership:

“Jetex’s exceptional operational standards and commitment to sustainability make them an ideal partner as we work to redefine urban air mobility. With their strategically positioned terminals and focus on delivering unparalleled customer experiences, this collaboration is a significant milestone in advancing sustainable air travel in the region.”

The partnership is a natural fit, combining Jetex’s extensive network and expertise in premium aviation services with Joby’s cutting-edge electric air taxi technology. Together, they aim to redefine urban and regional air travel, making it more sustainable and accessible.

Key Developments in the UAE

Dubai represents a critical market for Joby’s planned operations. A definitive agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority grants Joby exclusive rights to operate air taxis in the city for six years. Construction of the first vertiport in Joby’s Dubai air taxi network, located at Dubai International Airport, is already underway through Skyports, Joby’s launch infrastructure partner.

In Abu Dhabi, Joby has signed a multilateral agreement with key government entities, including the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), the Department of Economic Development (DED), and the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi). This agreement paves the way for the establishment and scaling of air taxi services in the Emirate, with the potential to expand to inter-emirate travel.

Preparing for Certification

Joby is also pursuing regulatory approval to become the first certificated air taxi operator in the UAE. The company is working closely with the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to secure an Air Operator Certificate. As part of this process, Joby will demonstrate the readiness of its aircraft and supporting systems, including training, maintenance, operations, and safety programs.

Cutting-Edge Aircraft Design

Joby’s aircraft, designed to carry a pilot and up to four passengers, is capable of reaching speeds of up to 200 mph (321 km/h). It promises high-speed mobility with significantly reduced noise levels compared to traditional helicopters and zero operating emissions. These features make Joby’s aircraft an attractive solution for urban air mobility, aligning with global efforts to reduce the environmental impact of aviation.

A New Era of Sustainable Air Travel

This partnership between Joby Aviation and Jetex represents a significant step toward achieving sustainable and innovative air travel in the Middle East. By combining Jetex’s world-class operational expertise and infrastructure with Joby’s groundbreaking electric air taxi technology, the collaboration is poised to transform how people travel across urban and regional landscapes.

From exclusive agreements in Dubai to ambitious plans in Abu Dhabi, the partnership demonstrates a shared vision of eco-conscious innovation, setting the stage for a new era of mobility. As the aviation industry evolves, partnerships like this will be instrumental in shaping a future where travel is not only efficient but also environmentally responsible.
