Today, Paired Power, a leading U.S. manufacturer of solar microgrid electric vehicle chargers, announces the installation of its PairTree EV charger at Sonoco (NYSE: SON), a global leader in consumer, industrial, health care, and protective packaging.
“We’re excited to introduce Sonoco to the benefits of our off-grid electric vehicle solar charger,” said Tom McCalmont, CEO of Paired Power. “Sonoco’s commitment to sustainability through recyclable material sourcing and various initiatives aligns perfectly with our mission. Our PairTree EV charger enhances their efforts by offering truly green charging solutions.”
The PairTree can operate as a standalone solar power system or as part of a microgrid with optional grid connection. This U.S.-made solar canopy integrates battery storage with solar power, enabling electric vehicle charging around the clock.
Designed for resilience, the PairTree provides emergency backup power during grid outages and reduces reliance on traditional power sources. It is a preferred choice over conventional grid chargers, which often involve lengthy permitting processes and rely on non-renewable energy. PairTree’s installation is quick and requires minimal permitting.
With a wind rating of up to 130 mph, the PairTree is well-suited for areas with variable weather, such as South Carolina. It fits into a standard 9 x 18 foot parking space, features no moving parts, and requires minimal maintenance compared to traditional tracker solutions. The PairTree offers one or two Level 2 EV charging ports with the standard J1772 interface.
“Paired Power’s solar, off-grid car charging technology is an ideal fit for providing resilient and clean energy to our employees who drive electric vehicles,” said Elizabeth Rhue, Vice President of Sustainability at Sonoco. “The simplicity, efficiency, and sleek design of the PairTree align with our company’s commitment to sustainability.
