The company revolutionizing powered trailers in the commercial trucking industry announced that Petaluma Egg Farm, a family-owned business serving grocery stores across Northern California, has placed an order for its electric-powered trailer system (pet’s). The system will be integrated into the farm’s California operations next year. Range’s pet’s kit is easy to install on any dry van or refrigerated trailer, providing propulsion assistance that delivers immediate fuel savings.
Petaluma Egg Farm’s adoption of Range’s hitch-up-and-go pet’s kit reflects its commitment to sustainability and fleet electrification. Before purchasing the system, the farm conducted a pilot in July 2024, testing a refrigerated trailer equipped with the pet’s on long-distance routes ranging from 100 to 440 miles, as well as on city distribution routes with over 15 delivery stops. The system maintained 100% uptime, with charging during regular dwell times, and consistently achieved up to a 70% improvement in miles per gallon across all routes.
Range’s pet’s easily integrates with existing trailer equipment, allowing the farm to use tractors with smaller engines, which, combined with fuel savings and improved efficiency from tractor-trailer hybridization, significantly reduces its carbon footprint without compromising delivery volume. Additionally, the pet’s can power a transport refrigeration unit (TRU) in electric mode throughout the day, cutting diesel consumption, emissions, and noise.
“Climate-smart agriculture and community responsibility are central to Petaluma Egg Farm’s operations, from egg production to the safe, efficient transport of our products,” said Jordan Mahrt, Owner of Petaluma Egg Farm. “Range’s solution supports our environmental goals while delivering cost savings. Their trailers are a future-proof investment that benefits both our fleet operations and the Bay Area community.”
“Range’s ongoing pilots are vital in demonstrating that our trailers offer an immediate, practical solution for commercial trucking electrification,” said Ali Jividen, CEO and founder of Range. “Petaluma Egg Farm’s decision to purchase our system following the pilot underscores the clear financial and environmental advantages of the pet’s. Whether you’re a family-run business or a national fleet, Range’s technology ensures a seamless transition to a more sustainable operation without sacrificing reliability.
