Ricardo Unveils Element Modular Transmission Series for Decarbonized Propulsion Systems

Ricardo, a global leader in environmental and engineering consultancy, has launched Element, a new range of modular transmissions designed to meet the needs of clients with specialized product portfolios. This modular transmission range offers an affordable path to creating custom drivelines for advanced propulsion systems, all while upholding high standards of performance and quality. The first models in the Element line include a series of epicyclic reduction drives for electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cell applications.

With Element, clients can choose from a variety of baseline solutions available for rapid prototyping or opt for customized configurations that align with specific performance needs. These options come with pre-engineered torque outputs and gear ratios, allowing for tailored adaptations without lengthy lead times.

Developed for industries with demanding performance standards, Element is ideal for sectors like motorsport, performance automotive, defense, off-highway, marine, and industrial applications.

Steve Blevins, Head of Engineering for Ricardo’s Performance Products, noted:

“Our reputation is built on highly customized gearboxes for premium motorsport and performance vehicles. As development cycles accelerate and budgets tighten, there’s a clear demand for solutions that balance cost with uncompromised quality and performance. Element is our answer to that demand.”

James Sundler, Business Development Director for Performance Products, added:

“We are committed to supporting our clients’ decarbonization efforts. Element’s range of pre-engineered, plug-and-play solutions compatible with various electric motors enables rapid electric drive unit (EDU) development, while meeting Ricardo’s exacting engineering standards.”

“With Element, we’re equipping clients to accelerate their shift to cleaner propulsion by lowering development costs and timelines. Our modular design approach ensures adaptability across sectors such as motorsport, defense, and marine, accommodating a range of operational demands.”

By combining Ricardo’s engineering precision with the flexibility of modular transmission solutions, Element aims to help industries navigating rapid transitions achieve their performance, reliability, and environmental goals.

The Element range will debut at the Professional Motorsport World Expo, held at Cologne Messe on November 13-14, 2024.
