Stellantis Launches New Software-Driven Products for B2C and B2B Markets

Stellantis is revolutionizing the mobility experience for both consumer and commercial vehicle owners across its 14 iconic brands with a continuous stream of new connected features. This initiative has significantly boosted high-margin revenue from software and connected services, growing 2.5 times since 2021. During the same period, the number of global subscribers has increased to 5 million.

Moreover, the monetizable car park has expanded by 15% to 13.8 million vehicles. In 2023, Stellantis delivered over 94 million over-the-air (OTA) updates, enhancing features in its existing vehicles.

These accomplishments pave the way for Stellantis’s next chapter of software growth. The company is leveraging cloud-based design and testing tools, including the innovative Virtual Engineering Workbench, to redefine the speed, quality, and deployment of automotive software. Developed both in-house and with strategic partners, this software enables next-generation features for upcoming and current Stellantis brand vehicles.

“In just over two years, we have transitioned from a traditional auto industry mindset to operating more like a startup, with a sharp focus on speed and building our own software creation capabilities. This shift gives us critical flexibility and a competitive edge moving forward,” said Yves Bonnefont, Stellantis Chief Software Officer. “Now we take the next step and begin scaling up, which includes preparing for the integration of our transformative STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit, and STLA AutoDrive AI-powered technology platforms.”

Stellantis has built robust in-house capabilities to develop its software, utilizing a global network of technology development hubs working around the clock. This enables the customization of software products for each of the company’s vehicle platforms.

The cutting-edge technology platforms include:

STLA Brain: This foundational architecture offers centralized computing with full over-the-air access to sensors and actuators, reducing complexity by halving the number of electronic control units (ECUs) per vehicle to approximately 60. New features can be developed in-house in less than six months, a quarter of the time of current processes. Technology readiness for integration is expected by the end of the year, with vehicle integration in 2025.

STLA SmartCockpit: This platform introduces a new generation of personalization and connected capabilities powered by machine learning and AI, providing seamless integration with users’ digital lives. Simplified menus with fewer clicks enhance ease of use, and AI-enabled experiences offer advanced options in navigation, media, climate, lighting, and productivity. A digital personal profile remembers user preferences across Stellantis brand vehicles. Technology readiness for integration is expected by the end of the year, debuting in a Stellantis vehicle in 2025.

STLA AutoDrive: Leveraging STLA Brain and STLA SmartCockpit, this system delivers advanced, continuously updated Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology that is intuitive and robust. It aims to significantly increase uninterrupted ADAS-supported driving time and distance. The strategy includes industry-leading ADAS that offers both hands-off/eyes-off-the-road mobility and a fallback to limited hands-off/eyes-on-the-road cruising (Level 2+). Eyes-off technology readiness is expected by the end of the year, with a commercial launch in 2025.

Stellantis is developing connected services and software-enabled features for retail and fleet customers under the philosophy of “Make my drive safer, make my life easier, and make my drive more exciting.” Available features include:

e-ROUTES: Available in Europe and expanding globally, Stellantis is the first automaker to launch a route-planning app integrated with real-time vehicle data for EVs. The app, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, projects e-ROUTES onto the vehicle’s central screen and tailors charge stops to driver preferences.

ChatGPT-enhanced virtual assistant: Following a successful pilot in October 2023, Stellantis is the first OEM to offer ChatGPT as a standard feature for new and existing vehicles, available in 20 European countries by the end of 2024. This feature allows natural language conversations to help customers with various tasks, including navigation and entertainment.

AppMarket: In North America, AppMarket integrates regularly refreshed services and experiences, allowing in-vehicle subscription purchases. It is available over the air in nearly half of Jeep® and Ram vehicles from the 2021 to 2023 model years, reaching 99% of eligible vehicles by the end of 2024. A similar service is available in Europe.

Free2move Connect Fleet: This fleet management platform provides real-time visibility and vital vehicle health data, such as oil life and battery charge. It also offers geofence boundaries and real-time geolocation, aiding in theft recovery.

MyTasks: This tool provides drivers with necessary information on the in-vehicle entertainment screen to efficiently execute schedules, even with changes or delays. Fleet managers receive automatic updates on task completion and rescheduling.

Mobilisights: Expanding its client base, Mobilisights leverages data from 13.8 million connected Stellantis vehicles to deliver innovative, privacy-respecting solutions. These insights enhance fleet management, driver experience, traffic management, and urban planning, fostering a smarter, safer transportation world through personalized and anonymized data.
