Strategic Vision’s 2025 Most Loved Vehicle Awards
Strategic Vision’s 2025 Most Loved Vehicle Awards (MLV) have unveiled a fascinating shift in the automotive industry’s relationship with electrification. For the first time, both Republicans and Democrats have chosen electric vehicles (EVs) as their Most Loved Vehicles—but surprisingly, neither pick was a Tesla. This trend signals a broader acceptance of EVs across political lines, with the BMW X5e, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and the Mercedes-Benz EQB, a luxury battery electric vehicle (BEV), winning over their respective voter bases.
A Political Shift in EV Preferences
Traditionally, Republicans have expressed hesitancy towards EVs, citing concerns over range, capability, and affordability. However, the 2025 MLV results suggest that once Republican consumers get behind the wheel of an electrified vehicle, they often fall in love with the driving experience. The BMW X5e has become the first electrified vehicle to win among Republican buyers, surpassing luxury SUVs and premium convertibles like the Corvette, which came in second place. The X5e offers a balance of performance, luxury, and hybrid efficiency, helping to break longstanding perceptions about EV limitations.
On the Democratic side, the Mercedes-Benz EQB emerged as the most loved vehicle. Democrats, generally more receptive to EVs, appreciate the EQB’s combination of genuine luxury, advanced technology, and all-electric performance. While Tesla has been a dominant force in the EV space, its sales have recently dipped, partially due to the increasingly polarized public perception of its CEO, Elon Musk.
“Many Tesla owners still have deep affection for their vehicles (and Mr. Musk),” says Alexander Edwards, President of Strategic Vision. “But political sentiments have been beaten into the brand perception. Tesla must study carefully what it wants to be in the near future to continue its success.”
The Evolution of EV Enthusiasm
For decades, electrified vehicles—including EVs, PHEVs, and hybrids—have scored lower than their gas-powered counterparts in owner satisfaction. However, the tide is turning. Modern electrified models are delivering superior performance, cutting-edge technology, and high levels of quality and trust—attributes that consumers value deeply.
“The electrification of vehicles is enhancing the driving experience and inspiring unparalleled technology and performance,” says Christopher Chaney, Senior Vice President of Strategic Vision. “Car makers have learned the hard way that slapping an electrified powertrain into a gas-powered designed vehicle and calling it green will not lead to success and sales. It’s common sense—the 2007 announcement of the Apple iPhone wasn’t about a redesigned Blackberry with an Apple logo slapped on; it was about something new, innovative, and Loveworthy.

Love Beyond EVs: Traditional Favorites Still Shine
While alternative powertrains are making strides, combustion-engine vehicles still dominate certain categories. The Jeep Wrangler continues to reign as the Most Loved Utility Vehicle ($55K and under), thanks to its legendary off-road capability and rugged charm. The Toyota Camry remains a favorite among the Latin American community, embodying reliability, security, and brand trust.
“The Most Loved Vehicles aren’t just about luxury features,” Edwards explains. “They’re about how those features make owners feel. When a customer uses the word ‘Love’ to describe a product, it is the strongest predictor of loyalty.”

What This Means for the Future of the Auto Industry
The results of the 2025 MLV Awards reflect a changing landscape where EVs and PHEVs are gaining traction across demographics that were previously hesitant. This shift could encourage automakers to accelerate the production of electrified models tailored to a broader audience, addressing concerns about range, capability, and affordability.
Tesla’s challenge lies in redefining its identity and navigating the increasingly politicized nature of its brand. While it remains a leader in EV innovation, competition is intensifying. Other manufacturers are now creating electrified models that not only match but exceed consumer expectations in key areas like quality, performance, and desirability.
