Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has taken another significant step in its ongoing commitment to skill development and community empowerment by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government Tool Room & Training Centre (GTTC), Karnataka. This collaboration, effective from January 2025, aims to enhance the quality of technical training and promote advanced industrial practices across Karnataka. Through this initiative, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is poised to play a pivotal role in preparing a skilled workforce equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and techniques to meet the demands of the modern industrial landscape.

The MoU outlines a series of collaborative efforts between Toyota Kirloskar Motor and GTTC, with a focus on faculty development, infrastructure upgrades, and the integration of advanced industry practices into training modules. By bridging the gap between academia and industry, TKM aims to empower trainees with the skills and expertise necessary to excel in today’s competitive job market. Building on the successful development of 16 GTTC centers, Toyota Kirloskar Motor renewed efforts will now extend to 16 additional centers, further cementing its role as a catalyst for skill enhancement and technical education in Karnataka.

Key Highlights of the Collaboration

  1. Faculty Development and Training: GTTC faculty members will receive hands-on training at TKM’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Bidadi. This training will include exposure to the globally renowned Toyota Production System (TPS) and the Toyota Way, emphasizing efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement. By equipping educators with practical insights and advanced methodologies, TKM aims to ensure that trainees receive world-class technical education.
  2. “Role Model” Institute Development: The GTTC Magadi campus will be developed as a flagship training center, setting a benchmark for excellence in industrial culture and training. Designed as a “Role Model” institute, the Magadi center will serve as a blueprint for the development of all future GTTC centers. This initiative underscores Toyota Kirloskar Motor dedication to creating centers of excellence that inspire innovation and skill development.
  3. Upgradation of MSDC Mysuru: The Multi-Skill Development Centre (MSDC) in Mysuru will undergo significant enhancements to expand its capacity for advanced training initiatives. These upgrades will include the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment and industry-relevant training modules, enabling the center to cater to the evolving needs of the manufacturing sector.
  4. Industrial Culture Development: To foster a strong industrial culture, TKM will provide tailored training materials and collaborate closely with GTTC centers and MSDCs. By instilling values of professionalism, discipline, and innovation, TKM aims to prepare trainees for the challenges and opportunities of the industrial sector.
  5. Sustainability Initiatives: In addition to technical training, TKM will promote sustainability through programs like the Dr. Miyawaki method of afforestation. GTTC faculty will be trained in this globally recognized green practice, fostering environmental stewardship alongside skill development.
  6. Advanced Training Support: TKM will deliver specialized training modules and materials designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required by the manufacturing industry. This support will ensure that trainees are well-equipped to meet the demands of modern workplaces.

The MoU, effective for 24 months, includes provisions for periodic reviews to assess progress and ensure the successful implementation of its objectives. This partnership reflects a shared vision between TKM and GTTC to build a robust ecosystem for technical education and employment generation in Karnataka.
