2024 China Autonomous Delivery Report: Foundation Models Enhance Multi-Scenario Applications

The 2024 Autonomous Delivery Industry Research Report examines the current status of autonomous delivery vehicles, their application scenarios, and future development trends.

Autonomous delivery vehicles are now operating regularly, with Jiangsu Province leading the way. These vehicles are being utilized in various sectors, including express delivery, supermarkets, and autonomous retail. From early 2023 to May 2024, autonomous delivery was predominantly concentrated in East China, North China, and Northwest China, with Jiangsu, Anhui, Shaanxi, and Zhejiang having the highest numbers. Suzhou, in Jiangsu, has the highest concentration of these vehicles in express delivery.

In November 2023, Jiangsu introduced legislation to promote the development of Internet of Vehicles and intelligent connected vehicles. This legislation, effective January 1, 2024, outlines regulations for autonomous driving equipment, including delivery vehicles. By April 2024, Suzhou’s Xiangcheng District had 41 autonomous delivery vehicles, handling around 14,000 parcels daily and collaborating with major express companies like SF Express, Yunda Express, and STO Express.

The report highlights a significant development in autonomous delivery solutions. In June 2023, an integrated AI delivery solution combining outdoor autonomous vehicles with indoor robots was launched. This solution allows direct delivery to destinations using both outdoor and indoor robots, enhancing efficiency across various scenarios. For instance, the WeChat applet of EMS now features a ‘robot door-to-door’ delivery option, where autonomous vehicles transport parcels to designated areas, and indoor robots complete the delivery.

Technological advancements are also evident. NEOLIX’s autonomous vehicles, such as the X3 Plus, use BEV (Bird’s Eye View) and Transformer perception technologies. These systems integrate data from multiple sensors to achieve high-precision, real-time environmental perception, allowing for effective interaction with traffic and improved autonomous learning. This technology enables vehicles to handle complex obstacles and road conditions, ensuring safe and accurate deliveries.
