Bank Holiday Surge in EV Charging Demand Shows Range Anxiety is a Thing of the Past, Says Allstar

As the August bank holiday approaches, Allstar, a leading UK provider of EV, fuel, and business expense payment solutions, anticipates that Friday, August 23rd will be the peak day for electric vehicle (EV) charging during the long weekend. This day alone is projected to account for 38% of the total charging activity over the bank holiday period. Notably, demand for EV charging on the Friday before the holiday has surged by 183% over the past three years. This increase aligns with the broader trend of rising public charging usage, which has grown by 264% year-on-year among Allstar’s business customers, according to their latest AllCosts report.

With around 45% of Brits planning to travel more this summer compared to last year, and 37% opting for staycations, August is expected to be a busy month for UK drivers. This includes those traveling for business, from delivery drivers to tour bus operators and mobile vendors.

To address concerns about range anxiety—the fear of running out of charge due to insufficient charging infrastructure—Allstar’s new report, Electric Escapes, highlights the UK’s most scenic locations for EV charging. This report aims to dispel fears about EV range by showcasing Allstar’s extensive network of over 21,000 locations and more than 56,000 chargers, with 82% of the network featuring fast, rapid, or ultra-rapid chargers.

Ashley Tate, MD UK at Allstar Chargepass, stated: “Our network spans the entire UK, ensuring drivers are never far from a charger. However, business drivers should be cautious this bank holiday weekend due to increased traffic and potential impacts of hot weather on EV battery efficiency and cooling systems. They should also plan for possible delays from roadworks and other disruptions.
