Surf Air Mobility, a leading regional air mobility platform, has announced the delivery of its first four Cessna Grand Caravan EX turboprop aircraft. These are the initial deliveries from Surf Air’s previously announced fleet order with Textron Aviation, a milestone in the company’s efforts to modernize and expand its fleet.
To finance two of these aircraft, Surf Air has partnered with ITC-AeroLeasing, Inc., a prominent Japanese aircraft leasing and sales company. ITC-AeroLeasing has been a long-standing financing partner for Surf Air and supports its mission to strengthen and scale its operations.
The delivery event, held at Textron Aviation’s manufacturing facility in Independence, Kansas, marked a significant step forward for Surf Air Mobility. Deanna White, CEO of Surf Air Mobility, expressed enthusiasm about the operational impact of these new aircraft.
We’re excited to immediately deploy these first four Grand Caravans onto our network to further enhance the profitability of our airline operations,” White stated. “With our fleet order with Textron Aviation, we’re continuing to deliver on our Transformation Plan. Every new Caravan will increase our operational efficiency and provide an even better experience for our passengers.
Strengthening U.S. Commuter Air Travel
As the largest commuter airline in the United States by scheduled departures, Surf Air Mobility plays a critical role in regional air travel. It also ranks among the largest passenger operators of Cessna Caravans in the U.S. With this fleet expansion, Surf Air plans to renew its existing fleet, improve its operational capabilities, and introduce new routes across the country.
The Cessna Grand Caravan EX is widely recognized for its reliability and adaptability, making it a cornerstone of regional air mobility solutions. These aircraft will allow Surf Air to optimize its services while maintaining its commitment to providing safe, efficient, and cost-effective travel options.
Mirika Nakayama, CEO of ITC-AeroLeasing, also expressed confidence in Surf Air’s growth trajectory. “We’re excited to partner with Surf Air Mobility to finance the initial deliveries of their Cessna Caravan fleet. We believe in Surf Air’s leadership team and their ability to profitably grow their footprint with these new aircraft,” Nakayama said.
A Vision for Electrified Aviation
Surf Air Mobility is actively pursuing advancements in sustainable aviation through the development of proprietary electrified powertrain technology. This initiative is centered around the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft, with Textron Aviation playing a key role in supporting this electrification effort.
The company’s long-term goal is to upgrade its own fleet with these electrified powertrains and offer the technology to other operators of passenger and cargo Caravans. Surf Air’s commitment to innovation aligns with its broader mission to reduce emissions, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the sustainability of regional air travel.
A Multifaceted Approach to Regional Air Mobility
In addition to its fleet operations, Surf Air Mobility is working on an AI-powered airline software operating system aimed at optimizing airline management and passenger experiences. This system is expected to streamline operations and improve safety, efficiency, and profitability for airlines across the regional air mobility industry.
Surf Air Mobility operates under three distinct air travel brands: Surf Air, Southern Airways, and Mokulele Airlines. Together, these brands serve as a robust platform for connecting communities across the United States, particularly in underserved regions.
