NIO Showcases Trio of Brands at Auto China 2026

NIO press conference drew nearly 500 journalists from China and around the world

The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition 2026 opened its doors to the global automotive community with renewed energy and ambition, setting the stage for one of the industry’s most influential showcases of innovation. Against the backdrop of the event’s theme, “A Vast New Realm,” NIO Inc. delivered a comprehensive presentation of its evolving ecosystem, unveiling a powerful demonstration of its multi-brand strategy through its three marques—NIO, ONVO, and firefly. Together, these brands presented 11 vehicles and 12 full-stack technologies, offering a glimpse into the company’s long-term vision for smart, sustainable mobility.

The NIO press conference drew nearly 500 journalists from China and around the world, reflecting the growing global interest in the company’s technological trajectory and product portfolio. William Li, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of NIO, emphasized the significance of this unified brand presentation. He highlighted that this marked the first time all three brands had appeared together at Auto China, symbolizing more than a decade of system-level innovation and the maturation of NIO’s ecosystem. According to Li, the company’s progress is rooted in its expansive charging and battery swap infrastructure, alongside continuous advancements in integrated vehicle technologies.

At the heart of NIO’s showcase was the debut of the flagship NIO ES9, a model positioned to redefine the executive SUV segment in the battery-electric era. Representing the culmination of 11 years of research, engineering, and iterative innovation, the ES9 integrates more than 40 industry-first technologies and nearly 40 class-leading features. Designed as a smart electric flagship, it combines performance, luxury, and intelligent systems in a way that underscores NIO’s ambition to lead in the premium EV category.

Visitors to the NIO booth were given the opportunity to engage directly with the ES9, exploring its refined design language and immersive cabin experience. Beyond static displays, the company created interactive exhibits such as SkyViMo and Soaring over the Skyline, which allowed attendees to experience the capabilities of NIO’s advanced SkyRide Full Active Suspension system. These demonstrations highlighted how digital control and mechanical engineering are converging to redefine ride quality and vehicle dynamics.

Another major highlight was the introduction of the NIO ES8 Mirrorblack Edition, an exclusive variant of the brand’s established premium SUV. Building on the six-seat Executive Signature version, the Mirrorblack Edition adds distinctive design enhancements, including a striking Arctic Black finish, black chrome exterior accents, and newly designed 22-inch forged wheels paired with Sunlight Gold brake calipers. Inside, the model debuts a bold Yardang Orange interior theme, blending luxury aesthetics with meticulous craftsmanship to create a uniquely refined cabin environment.

The ES8 has already established itself as a benchmark in the premium SUV segment. Surpassing 100,000 deliveries in just 215 days, it has achieved one of the fastest adoption rates among vehicles priced above RMB 400,000. Its sustained market leadership—holding the top sales position for four consecutive months across multiple categories—underscores strong consumer confidence in NIO’s design, performance, and technology integration.

In addition to flagship models, NIO presented updates to its core lineup, including the 2026 versions of the NIO ET5 and NIO ET5 Touring, as well as the NIO ES6 and NIO EC6. These vehicles, already well-established in their respective segments, have been further refined with enhancements across design, interior comfort, and intelligent driving capabilities. The introduction of the Clean Park Edition across these models adds a layer of exclusivity, incorporating 15 unique design and configuration upgrades aimed at elevating both aesthetics and user experience.

The ONVO brand also played a significant role in NIO’s presentation, demonstrating how the company is expanding its reach into new segments. The upcoming ONVO L80 was announced as a smart large five-seat executive flagship SUV, with its official product and technology launch scheduled shortly after the show. Meanwhile, the ONVO L90, launched just days before the event, represents a major step forward in the integration of advanced hardware and software systems.

The ONVO L90 incorporates more than 70 upgrades across eight key domains, reflecting a holistic approach to vehicle development. Central to its capabilities is NIO’s proprietary NX9031 chip, recognized as the world’s first 5-nanometer automotive-grade processor for intelligent driving. This is complemented by the NIO WorldModel (NWM), a pioneering framework for smart driving in China, and the NIO Vehicle Operating System, an AI-native platform that integrates vehicle functions across domains. Together, these technologies position the L90 as a standout offering in the RMB 300,000 segment, delivering capabilities typically associated with higher-priced flagship models.

In contrast to the premium and executive focus of NIO and ONVO, the firefly brand brought a creative and expressive dimension to the exhibition. Its refreshed model, presented alongside three custom builds, demonstrated how compact electric vehicles can combine performance with personalization. The introduction of a new porto peach exterior color and redesigned two-tone alloy wheels added a playful yet sophisticated visual identity.

Firefly also showcased its growing customization culture, featuring special editions such as the “glow rod,” previously unveiled at Milan Design Week, and community-driven creations like “springtime getaway” and “snow rush.” These models reflect a collaborative design philosophy, where user input plays a central role in shaping product evolution. Reinforcing this approach, the brand launched a new season of its “project glow” initiative in partnership with the Central Academy of Fine Arts, inviting users to contribute new ideas and designs.

Beyond vehicles, NIO’s booth emphasized its technological ecosystem. A dedicated technology zone highlighted 12 full-stack innovations, including proprietary systems such as the NX9031 chip, the SkyRide Intelligent Chassis, and a 900V high-performance electric drive platform. Interactive demonstrations—ranging from dynamic chassis displays to a live battery swap demonstration—illustrated how these technologies translate into real-world performance and convenience.

Infrastructure development also featured prominently in NIO’s announcements. The company introduced the Silk Road Power Swap Route Project, an ambitious initiative aimed at enabling long-distance EV travel through an extensive battery swap network. The first phase, covering the Hexi Corridor from Xi’an to Dunhuang, spans 1,739 kilometers and includes 20 Power Swap Stations strategically placed at regular intervals. By the end of September, the full 3,448-kilometer route is expected to be operational, with more than 30 stations supporting seamless travel across vast distances.

NIO’s presence at Auto China extended beyond technology and products to include its community-driven philosophy. The company brought its largest-ever team of user volunteers to the event, creating an engaging and welcoming environment for visitors. Dedicated spaces such as NIO Power, NIO Café, and NIO Radio offered interactive experiences, while a user-exclusive lounge provided a platform for deeper engagement. This emphasis on community reflects NIO’s broader vision of building not just vehicles, but a holistic lifestyle ecosystem.

Complementing this approach, NIO Life showcased its latest offerings, including the Clean Parks Snow Leopard series, within a specially curated exhibition space titled “Letter to the Snow Mountains.” This integration of lifestyle products with automotive innovation highlights the company’s commitment to creating a cohesive brand experience that extends beyond mobility.

As Auto China 2026 continues through early May at Beijing’s प्रमुख exhibition venues, NIO’s comprehensive showcase stands as a testament to its strategic evolution. By bringing together its three brands under a unified vision, the company has demonstrated how multi-brand architecture, advanced technology, and user-centric design can converge to shape the future of electric mobility.
