Immersion Reports Q4 and Fiscal 2026 Results

Immersion Reports Fiscal 2026 Results with £1.7 Billion in Annual Revenue, Higher Dividend and Continued Focus on Shareholder Value

Immersion Corporation a leading licensing company specialising in haptic technologies, has released its financial results for the fourth quarter and full fiscal year ended April 30, 2026. The company reported annual revenue growth, improved quarterly profitability and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering long-term shareholder value through disciplined capital allocation, strategic investments and consistent dividend payments.

The latest financial report reflects a year of transition for the company. Although quarterly revenue declined compared with the same period a year earlier, Immersion delivered positive net income during the fourth quarter and achieved higher full-year revenue. Management also highlighted the growing value of its investment in Barnes & Noble Education while outlining its strategy of prioritising regular dividends over aggressive share repurchases.

Fourth Quarter Performance

For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, Immersion generated total revenue of $270.0 million, compared with $284.9 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025. While revenue declined year over year, the company significantly improved profitability, reversing the net loss reported in the prior-year quarter.

GAAP operating expenses decreased to $77.6 million, down from $85.8 million a year earlier. The reduction in operating costs demonstrates continued efforts to improve operational efficiency while maintaining investments in the company’s intellectual property portfolio and licensing activities.

On a non-GAAP basis, operating expenses also declined significantly, falling to $83.8 million from $100.7 million during the same quarter of fiscal 2025. The improvement suggests tighter cost controls and more efficient management of business operations.

Perhaps the most notable improvement came in profitability. Under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Immersion reported net income attributable to shareholders of $3.7 million, equivalent to $0.12 per diluted share. This represents a substantial turnaround compared with the net loss of $17.7 million, or $0.62 per diluted share, recorded during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025.

The company’s non-GAAP performance also reflected stronger earnings. Non-GAAP net income attributable to shareholders reached $9.9 million, or $0.30 per diluted share, compared with a non-GAAP net loss of $2.7 million, or $0.08 per diluted share, in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The improved earnings demonstrate that despite softer quarterly revenue, Immersion successfully managed expenses and improved overall profitability.

Full-Year Fiscal 2026 Results

For the full fiscal year ended April 30, 2026, Immersion generated $1.7 billion in total revenue, representing an increase from $1.6 billion reported during fiscal 2025.

The increase in annual revenue highlights the resilience of the company’s licensing business despite ongoing market changes and operational challenges experienced during the year.

GAAP operating expenses for the year totalled $345.4 million, compared with $313.7 million in fiscal 2025. Meanwhile, non-GAAP operating expenses increased to $401.6 million, up from $365.7 million during the previous year.

Although operating expenses increased on an annual basis, the company maintained strong revenue growth while continuing to invest in its intellectual property assets, strategic initiatives and business operations.

GAAP net income attributable to Immersion shareholders for fiscal 2026 amounted to $4.5 million, or $0.14 per diluted share. This compares with $64.3 million, or $1.90 per diluted share, recorded during fiscal 2025.

On a non-GAAP basis, net income attributable to shareholders reached $60.8 million, or $1.84 per diluted share, compared with $116.3 million, or $3.52 per diluted share, in fiscal 2025.

While annual earnings declined compared with the previous fiscal year, the company emphasised that its long-term strategy remains centred on monetising its valuable intellectual property portfolio and generating sustainable shareholder returns.

Leadership Commentary

Eric Singer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Immersion, said the company remained focused on executing its long-term business strategy despite an unusual operating environment during the past year.

According to Singer, the company experienced limitations in communicating with shareholders during portions of fiscal 2026, making the reporting period somewhat atypical. Nevertheless, management maintained its core priorities throughout the year.

These priorities include protecting Immersion’s extensive intellectual property portfolio, maximising licensing opportunities, allocating capital prudently and creating sustainable long-term value for shareholders.

Singer noted that despite temporary communication constraints, the company’s underlying business strategy has remained consistent and disciplined.

Intellectual Property Remains Core Business

Immersion has built its reputation as one of the world’s leading developers and licensors of haptic technologies, which enable tactile feedback in electronic devices. Rather than manufacturing consumer hardware itself, the company earns revenue by licensing its patented technologies across multiple industries.

Its intellectual property portfolio covers numerous applications including smartphones, gaming controllers, automotive systems, virtual reality, wearable devices, industrial equipment, medical technology and consumer electronics.

As demand continues to grow for richer user experiences and more immersive digital interfaces, haptic technologies are expected to remain an important area of innovation across numerous industries.

Management continues to focus on protecting these valuable patents while expanding licensing agreements that generate recurring revenue.

Barnes & Noble Education Investment

A significant portion of management’s discussion focused on Immersion’s strategic investment in Barnes & Noble Education.

Singer expressed satisfaction with the value generated through the investment, noting that Barnes & Noble Education recently initiated a quarterly dividend of $0.08 per share, reflecting confidence in its financial outlook and future business prospects.

Immersion currently owns more than 11 million shares of Barnes & Noble Education, representing one of the company’s largest investment assets alongside its existing cash reserves and investment portfolio.

Management believes this investment continues to strengthen shareholder value while providing additional sources of long-term returns beyond the company’s core licensing business.

The investment also contributes to Immersion’s diversified capital allocation strategy by combining intellectual property licensing income with strategic equity investments.

Capital Allocation Strategy

Immersion reaffirmed its commitment to disciplined capital allocation and returning cash to shareholders through regular dividends.

Singer explained that since launching its dividend programme in January 2023, the company has either paid or declared approximately $1.01 per share in cumulative dividends.

Rather than pursuing aggressive share repurchase programmes, management currently believes shareholders will benefit more from reliable quarterly dividend payments supplemented by periodic special dividends whenever appropriate.

According to the company, this strategy reflects prevailing market conditions and management’s assessment of how best to allocate capital for long-term shareholder returns.

The company also disclosed that $39.3 million remains authorised under its existing stock repurchase programme, providing flexibility should management determine that buybacks become a more attractive use of capital in the future.

Insider Ownership

Singer also highlighted the significant ownership stake maintained by Immersion insiders.

He stated that executives and directors continue to hold substantial equity positions in the company, ensuring that management’s financial interests remain closely aligned with those of other shareholders.

This alignment, according to management, reinforces the company’s commitment to increasing shareholder equity over the long term through disciplined execution, responsible investment decisions and effective management of intellectual property assets.

Dividend Increase

One of the most shareholder-friendly developments during fiscal 2026 was the increase in the company’s quarterly dividend.

In December 2025, Immersion raised its quarterly dividend from $0.045 per share to $0.075 per share, representing a substantial increase designed to reward long-term investors.

The third quarterly payment under the increased dividend programme will be distributed on 31 July 2026 to shareholders of record as of 20 July 2026.

This payment marks the company’s 15th consecutive quarterly dividend, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to returning capital to shareholders.

Management noted, however, that future dividends will continue to be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors in accordance with applicable legal requirements and the company’s evolving capital allocation strategy.

The Board also retains the authority to modify, suspend or discontinue future dividend payments if business conditions or strategic priorities change.

Consolidated Financial Reporting

Immersion also clarified that the financial information included in the latest earnings announcement incorporates the consolidated financial results of Barnes & Noble Education.

Specifically, the reported figures include Barnes & Noble Education’s financial performance for the fiscal year ended 2 May 2026, as well as results covering the period from 10 June 2024 through 3 May 2025.

The consolidation provides investors with a broader view of Immersion’s overall financial position following its strategic investment.
