At the rear, the ES9 features what NIO describes as the longest taillight setup in its segment, enhancing both visibility and brand identity.
The vehicle’s interior design blends advanced technology with traditional Chinese cultural inspiration. The cabin architecture incorporates what NIO calls the “Sky Island” concept, paired with an Executive Console layout that creates a sense of openness while maintaining exclusivity for passengers.
For customers choosing the Horizon Edition, two distinct exterior themes—Dawncrest and Starscape—are available. The interior of this top-tier trim further distinguishes itself through handcrafted Su embroidery, an important element of traditional Chinese cultural heritage. Featuring nearly 400,000 intricate stitches, the embroidery creates a landscape-inspired rivers-and-mountains design that transforms the cabin into a refined artistic environment.
Spaciousness Designed for Executive Travel
One of the ES9’s strongest selling points is its emphasis on space and practicality. NIO claims the SUV delivers passenger and cargo room beyond what traditional multipurpose vehicles (MPVs) can typically offer.
The cabin stretches to 2,805 mm in usable interior length, giving occupants an exceptional amount of space to relax. Second-row passengers benefit from over 1.5 meters of legroom, while headroom across all three seating rows exceeds one meter. A dedicated panoramic glass roof spanning approximately two meters enhances openness and natural light throughout the interior.
Cargo practicality has also been prioritized. The ES9 offers an impressive 816 liters of storage space, enough to comfortably accommodate six occupants and up to 13 suitcases. Additionally, a 216-liter smart front trunk adds further utility for everyday use.
NIO has also standardized convenience features across the lineup, including smart power-operated doors and ultra-wide side steps that make entering and exiting the large SUV significantly easier for passengers.
Executive-Level Comfort for Work and Relaxation
Luxury and comfort play a central role in the ES9’s positioning as an executive flagship. The SUV has been designed to function not only as a transportation vehicle but also as a mobile office, relaxation lounge, and hospitality space.
The second-row executive seats incorporate a zero-gravity design and feature a continuous 2.3-meter cushion layout. NIO says the arrangement provides exceptional ergonomic support, especially during long-distance travel. To further elevate passenger comfort, the seats feature a sophisticated 42-point full-body massage system designed to reduce fatigue and maximize relaxation.
Privacy is another major focus. The ES9 becomes the world’s first production vehicle equipped with array-based liquid crystal smart dimming windows. These windows can shift between transparency levels in only 17 milliseconds, instantly shielding occupants from external distractions and creating a more private cabin environment.
At the center of the luxury experience is NIO’s Executive Console, which integrates dual 16-inch executive displays, a high-definition conferencing system, and a bespoke magnetic tea tray. These features collectively transform the rear cabin into a professional environment for business meetings or premium hospitality while traveling.
Industry-Leading Sound Experience
NIO has also heavily emphasized in-cabin entertainment and acoustic performance with the introduction of the LYRA 9.2.4.8 sound system.
The audio system incorporates 47 speakers and generates up to 3,020 watts of rated power, positioning it among the most sophisticated sound systems available in any vehicle segment. The company claims its native acoustic layout creates a deeply immersive listening environment.
Adding to the premium audio experience are diamond dome tweeters, which NIO says are an industry first. Combined with a high-resolution audio system, these components are designed to deliver exceptional sound precision and lifelike clarity.
The ES9’s quiet cabin further enhances this experience. Engineers reportedly implemented over 150 wind-noise optimization measures, alongside an advanced Active Road Noise Cancellation system that comes standard across all variants.
