Pioneer Power Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: PPSI), a prominent player in electrical power systems, distributed energy resources, power generation equipment, and mobile electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has recently secured a significant order exceeding $5 million for its e-Boost mobile EV charging solutions from a major U.S. metro transit authority. This milestone, coupled with its existing backlog, positions Pioneer’s eMobility business unit to surpass the 2024 revenue target of $10 million for mobile off-grid EV charging solutions.
The Transit Authority, serving one of the largest metro cities in the U.S., is committed to decarbonizing and electrifying its transit bus fleet sustainably by 2028. Pioneer eMobility won the contract based on key factors including sustainability, mobility, experience, power capacity, lead time, design efficiency, and consultative approach. The contract entails the procurement, installation, and upkeep of four e-Boost Mobile units across two transit depot locations, facilitating EV charging for the Transit Authority’s initial fleet of 24 EV buses.
Each e-Boost Mobile unit boasts 240kW of onboard power and comes with six offboard mobile EV chargers on connected skids. These units are designed for flexibility, enabling transit depot operations to relocate to a secondary site during natural disasters like wildfires or floods. With 8.4MWh of onboard energy per site, Pioneer’s off-grid, mobile design ensures continuous EV charging during routine operations and adverse weather conditions or grid congestion at remote sites.
Geo Murickan, President of Pioneer eMobility, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing advanced, high-capacity mobile EV charging solutions that align with the sustainability goals of progressive cities, enhancing the well-being of local residents and transit operators.
Moreover, this order signifies one of the initial purchases of e-Boost units through Sourcewell, a national nonprofit service cooperative connecting government, education, and nonprofit agencies with qualified suppliers. Pioneer’s e-Boost product line is now accessible to all municipal and government agencies through Sourcewell via its alliance partner INF Associates Energy Solutions.
Nathan Mazurek, CEO and Chairman of Pioneer, underscored the significance of this order, highlighting the momentum gained by Pioneer’s e-Boost product line. He emphasized the importance of transit bus electrification and the validation of e-Boost’s robustness and nationwide applicability within the transit industry.
The swift timeline for this project, from approval to execution, is attributed to e-Boost’s selection, with Pioneer eMobility ensuring all critical components with long lead times are readily available in inventory. This agility provides e-Boost a competitive edge in the market, positioning Pioneer as a trusted partner for customers facing critical grid gap challenges.
